An Unexpected Trail: May, Mick, and Reginald in the Forbidden Desert Market
·
Published 3/31/2023Sir Reginald Levinson, a distinguished Victorian gentleman, joins forces with a sharp-witted teenager and an overly sarcastic elven ranger to take on an impossible quest of finding a rare gem in a forbidden desert market, only to be met with a powerful cult and its imposing leader who test their courage and wit in a daring trial in order to prove their innocence and save the desert.
Reginald Levinson was not a man who liked to be late.
He had arrived at the train station with enough time to spare, but now he was running. Well, hobbling really. He was in no way fit for the physically taxing lifestyle of an adventurer. Several months ago, he had been forced to sell his beloved collection of antique clocks after his house had burned down. He never intended to venture into the desert, but it seemed like the only way out of his financial mess. Now, he found himself in a dusty town called El Dorado.
The sun was high in the sky as Reginald waddled down the streets towards an inn he had heard about from a local boy earlier that day. His stomach growled and grumbled as he pushed past people and carts and animals, barely able to keep his eyes open from exhaustion. The whole journey from England took several days, during which he had been forced to sleep on a bench in the train car.
"This is ridiculous," Reginald said to himself as he finally reached the door of the inn. "I should have just bought a house here instead."
Reginald opened the door and entered into a small room filled with people eating lunch. He scanned around and spotted an empty table in the corner, quickly making his way there before someone else could grab it first.
As Reginald sat down, he took off his top hat and placed it on the table next to him. A waitress soon made her way over to him and greeted him with a smile. "Good afternoon sir, can I get you anything?" she asked politely.
"Yes please," Reginald replied, rubbing his eyes and yawning. "I would like some soup." The waitress nodded and left without another word. Reginald continued rubbing his eyes until they closed on their own accord, before suddenly waking up straight again with a gasp. He looked around to see if anyone had noticed his embarrassing mistake before returning to his nap once more. This time though, he kept one eye open just in case something interesting happened while he wasn't paying attention - which was usually quite often actually, but this time fortunately enough it worked out well for him as two women entered through the door into the room behind him and sat down at a table near by - one of them being May Gilliland herself! Reginald's heart skipped a beat as excitement coursed through his veins: today was going to be great!
Reginald immediately jumped up from his seat and hurriedly made his way over to May's table; completely forgetting about all manners or any sense of decency whatsoever - not that May minded of course! She was too busy chatting with her friend about their recent adventure in El Dorado thus far when Reginald interrupted them by yelling: "Hello Miss Gilliland!"
May turned around with a confused look on her face; looking up at someone who was much taller than her sitting down opposite her at her table - which she couldn't very well do because she wasn't sitting opposite someone sitting down at all... In fact, she didn't even remember setting this table! Oh well! Perhaps she had forgotten something? May shrugged her shoulders and replied: "Yes? What can I do for you?"
["What you can do for me is share your wisdom!"] Reginald thought happily to himself as he tried desperately hard not to act like a crazy person in front of May - although that wasn't exactly hard considering how calm he felt right now! Instead of saying this though... Reginald simply stated: "I am Sir Reginald Levinson - one of your biggest fans!"
[Oh god... did I just say that?] Reginald thought worriedly before noticing that May seemed happy about what he said instead of being disgusted by it: perhaps she didn't even hear what he said? Perhaps she didn't even notice that I'm being weirdly loud right now? Well whatever! This was good enough for now! Reginald beamed happily at May who smiled back at him before suddenly returning back to her conversation with her friend as if nothing had happened at all... which it hadn't really! They were just two people having a normal conversation like normal people do every day! It was no big deal really - so why did Reginald suddenly feel so insecure all of a sudden? Why did he feel like crying? Why did he feel like running away? Why did May seem so distant all of a sudden? Why didn't she smile anymore? Did something happen while I wasn't paying attention? Oh no... did I do something wrong? Did I upset her somehow? Is she angry at me? Did I scare her away?! *Oh god no*! Reginald frantically thought as panic slowly started taking over control over his body once again... until suddenly - everything went black and silent around him... until there came voices from somewhere else instead... familiar voices... so familiar... yet so unfamiliar... oh yes... these voices belonged to Mick Relac and Ms May Gilliland herself! And they were talking about some very familiar things as well! They were talking about some very important things indeed! Very important indeed! So important that they would change everything forever-forever-forever-forever-forever-forever-forever-forever-forever-forever-forever-forev-- [
