Risen: Nikita's Unstoppable Journey
·
Published 4/2/2023When an ordinary girl, Nikita, inexplicably gains incredible strength and power overnight, she must use her newfound abilities to challenge the elite renaissance society that has excluded her, and facing immense prejudice, she must answer the ultimate question - what has she become?
The first time I had noticed the change was in my reflection.
It was sudden, and I hadn't realized it until my hand touched my face, resting on the curve of my cheek. My fingers traced down to my chin, and then continued down to my neck. I could feel the bones underneath the skin, forming a rigid foundation for the rest of my body. I turned and looked into the mirror, meeting my own eyes. My face didn't look any different than before; I had always thought of myself as attractive, but now it looked perfect. There were no blemishes or scars to mar its surface, no wrinkles or bags under my eyes, nothing that hinted at how tired I felt after a long day of classes and studying.
I couldn't understand what had happened to me; all I knew was that there was a boy who had caught my eye in class yesterday, and now he wasn't even visible from behind me. Was I sick? Had I been bitten by a parasite? Did I have some kind of weird growth disorder?
I had no answers; all I could do was go about my daily routine as a normal student with a new condition. When classes ended for the day, headed back to my dormitory room so that I could study for tomorrow's exams. As I stepped out of the classroom building and walked through the empty hallways towards the nearest elevator, a girl bumped into me as she ran past, nearly knocking me over. She apologized profusely before running off again without waiting for an answer.
That's odd.
The next day I went to class normally, though this time when someone bumped into me they were sent flying away from me before they could even fall down on the floor. Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at me in shock as they saw their classmate bounce off the floor like a rubber ball and roll across the hallway before stopping near one of their friends' desks.
Oh right.
I walked calmly out of the classroom building that night, stepping over scattered student bodies on the ground outside who tried to stop me as if they could've done anything to hurt me if they weren't unconscious already from simply touching me earlier today. They would be fine, though; whatever had changed about me seemed to have also given me an enhanced healing factor that would fix any damage done to them within minutes. The only thing left behind would be a faint bruise where they had touched me when it was all over.
