Rebelling Against The Todorokis

I didn't have any friends. I never had any friends.

I just wanted to be left alone, but the world would not leave me be.

My parents were both heroes. Shinso Hitoshi, the mind controller and Shoto Todoroki, the master of fire and ice. I got my dad's mind control powers, but nothing else. No ice manipulation, no fire control, no physical strength beyond what my mom's genes granted me, nothing. When I was born with these powers - or lack thereof - I was sent away to the US to live in the capital city of a small, backwards state called Alabama where there were few heroes and even fewer people who knew anything about Japan or its culture.

And so I was raised in this tiny little city called Huntsville by an old couple who lived on a farm and grew soybeans, corn and cotton. They fed me most days, sometimes they let me learn how to drive their tractor and I helped out with the harvest when it came time for that. My English wasn't always great (still isn't), but we got along pretty well for a while. And then one day I was 18 years old and I went off to school like any other day and then my parents showed up out of nowhere and took me back home with them to Japan over everyone's objections.

And ever since then I've been at home with them, which is fine in theory but not very much in practice because they're both way too overprotective so now I'm basically a prisoner in my own house because they don't want me going outside without at least one of them with me at all times.

It's fucking bullshit!

They say it's because they love me and want to protect me from all the bad things in the world that could get me hurt or killed or kidnapped or whatever else they can think of but it doesn't matter because no matter how much they try to keep me inside I'm going to leave one way or another eventually because if there's one thing you can count on when dealing with people who have power over your mind it's that sooner rather than later you'll either get sick of it or you'll find a way around it because that's just how these things work.

So today after one of their "naps" (that's what they call it whenever they go into their room together) where they do some kind of weird mental bonding thing where they share each other's thoughts and feelings I snuck out while they were still asleep and went out into town by myself because fuck it if I'm going to spend another day cooped up in this house like a prisoner then I might as well be doing something useful for once instead of just sitting around wasting away like some sort of caged animal waiting for the day when someone decides to set me free from my cage so that maybe then I can finally do something worthwhile instead of wasting away my life locked away behind closed doors with nothing to do but eat food that isn't even real food anymore because these days everything tastes like cardboard anyway because why pay real money for something when you can just put something into hypnosis and make people think that eating cardboard tastes like real food instead?

I really don't understand why everyone seems so eager to give up their freedom these days though honestly? It's not like being free is all that great in most cases anyway! People die all the time trying to go somewhere new or do something new or meet someone new or experience something new...that doesn't sound fun at all! It sounds scary! What if dying is fun?! Or what if dying is fun until you realize too late that you shouldn't have died and now you're dead forever?! That doesn't sound like a good idea!

So yeah whatever! Fuck this shit! Whatever happens happens! If anyone tries to grab me then whatever happens next is on them! This is America after all! Not some dictatorship run by psychotic superpowered Japanese people whose only purpose in life seems to be keeping their son from growing up normally!
