"No one is free who is not master of himself." --Seneca

Tagia knew the village was dying, she could feel it in her bones. The weather had been unseasonably hot for months, and the village's water supply was drying up. Even the animals were dying of thirst. She couldn't understand why Seti didn't do more to save them.

Tagia was by no means old, but she had been around long enough to have seen kings come and go. She remembered when Seti had first taken over, he wasn't much older than she was now. He had led a small army against his father in a bloody coup, and with his god-like strength and cunning he had bested his enemies time and time again. A few years later he had met and married Kiya, the most beautiful woman Tagia had ever seen. She still missed her dearly.

The last time Tagia had seen Seti, he looked like a man possessed. His face was twisted into an expression of pure rage as he screamed at his men to bring down the rebel leader named Moses. Moses, how that man had made life miserable for all of them! With his brother Aaron leading the armies of Israel from behind enemy lines, Israelite raiders constantly raided the villages on Seti's land for slaves and spoils of war. Moses himself led hit-and-run raids against Seti's own troops, plaguing them from within their own borders! The people were frightened, but they were also outraged! They knew what Moses was doing was wrong, but they didn't have anyone brave enough to stand up to him except for one person: Aaron's own wife Miriam!

After being tortured by Moses himself for adultery with someone other than Aaron--who would dare take up with that monster?--Miriam fled Egypt with her child Joseph to the safety of Seti's camp where she begged him to end this madness immediately! After hearing her tale of woe he promised her that he would crush both Moses and Aaron once and for all! But when his spies brought him news that Miriam had returned to Moses' side, he took it as a sign from the gods that Moses truly was invincible! He gathered as many troops together as he could muster and attacked Israel head-on!

That night though, everything changed. As his men lay dying at their posts before the walls of Mt Horeb, thunder rolled across the sky and a voice called out in Hebrew "Why do you strike your brother?" It was Moses! Angered by this betrayal, Seti cried out "You are my brother!" And then lightning tore through the sky, striking down most of those before him including Kiya's father Rithonis, who had been in command of Israel's armies since its founding! When morning came there was nothing left but smoldering bodies which would later provide food for scavengers into eternity...except Moses himself who silently watched from atop Mt Horeb as his men took down what was left of Seti's army!

For years after that humiliating defeat, Seti withdrew from public view while he plotted vengeance against Moses and those who dared to support him, like Miriam. In an act of desperation, he sent emissaries to every corner of Egypt seeking out those willing to take up arms against those who did not believe in the God Ra Amun or worship the Pharaohs as living gods! After promising gold and women to any who would join him on his quest for vengeance against Israel's heretics, it wasn't long before young men flocked to his banner, eager for glory beyond imagining! For what better way to win a woman's heart than by killing heretics? If that didn't work well then taking their belongings should put you in good standing with any master including the highest master: Pharaoh himself!

But the Israelites were not slaves that submitted easily to tyranny or injustice; they were criminals willing to die rather than live under Egyptian rule! It didn't take long before young naive fools like Sesostris realized they were being used by Seti just so he could gain more power; power which could only be maintained through fear rather than love or respect (if such things even existed). Despite this realization, however, Sesostris did not return home having decided that if he must kill then so be it; better to die fighting against injustice than live under it like some kind of cow waiting for slaughter!

When Seti returned victoriously after three years away with a fury unlike anything ever witnessed before in Egypt, he wasn't welcomed back joyously with flowers or bread; instead, when they saw their beloved Pharaoh returning soldiers cheered angrily shouting "Where were you when we needed you?" They spat insults at him as if they didn't care whether or not they lived or died because death would be preferable than living under these conditions any longer. When word spread about how Sesostris fought alongside Seti during this campaign against the evil

forces of Moses, people began to speak of him in hushed tones. They whispered about his courage, his loyalty, and his unwavering commitment to justice. The village, once filled with skepticism and resentment towards Seti, began to see him in a different light.

Tagia, too, couldn't help but be moved by Sesostris' transformation. She had known him since he was a young boy, and she had watched him grow into the fine, honorable man he had become. His actions spoke volumes about his character, and she saw glimpses of her own ideals reflected in him.

As Seti rode through the village, Tagia found herself standing on the outskirts of the crowd, her gaze fixed on Sesostris. He rode tall and proud, his armor gleaming under the scorching sun. The scars on his face were a testament to the battles he had fought, the sacrifices he had made.

Their eyes met for a brief moment, and Tagia felt a surge of warmth in her chest. There was something unspoken between them, a connection that went beyond mere friendship. But in this tumultuous time, with the village on the brink of destruction, there was no room for such thoughts.

That evening, as the sun began to set, Tagia found herself walking towards Sesostris' humble dwelling on the outskirts of the village. It was a small cottage, tucked away in a grove of ancient trees. The sounds of nature enveloped her as she approached the door, her heart pounding in her chest.

Sesostris opened the door, his eyes widening in surprise at the sight of Tagia standing before him. "Tagia," he whispered, his voice filled with a mix of wonder and uncertainty. "What brings you here?"

"I needed to see you," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "There's something I need to tell you."

Sesostris stepped aside, wordlessly inviting her into his home. The interior was simple, adorned with only the essentials. A small table stood in the center of the room, cluttered with maps and scrolls. Tagia's eyes wandered across the room, taking in the sight of weaponry hanging on the wall—a constant reminder of the battles he had fought.

"Please, sit," Sesostris gestured to a worn-out chair next to the table. He took a seat across from her, his gaze unwavering.

"I've watched you, Sesostris," Tagia began, her voice steady, "and I've seen the man you've become. Your bravery, your unwavering commitment to justice—"

Sesostris held up a hand, interrupting her. "Tagia, I cannot take credit for the person I have become. It was Seti who showed me the path. He saw something in me that I didn't even see in myself."

Tagia leaned forward, her eyes brimming with intensity. "But it is you who embodied those values. It was your actions on the battlefield, your courage in the face of adversity, that inspired the village. Seti may have lit the fire, but you fanned the flames."

Sesostris sighed, his expression filled with a mix of humility and sorrow. "Tagia, I appreciate your words. But what good is all this if we cannot save our village? The water is drying up, the crops are withering. We are on the brink of collapse."

Tagia reached across the table, her hand gently covering Sesostris'. "Sesostris, we cannot lose hope. Just as you found the strength within yourself to fight for justice, we must find a way to fight for our village. I believe in you, and I will stand by your side in this battle."

A flicker of determination sparked in Sesostris' eyes. "Tagia, you have given me hope when I needed it the most. Together, we will find a solution. We will bring water back to our parched land, and we will rebuild our village. As long as we fight together, we will not fail."

Their hands remained intertwined, a symbol of their shared resolve. In that moment, Tagia knew that her life was forever entwined with Sesostris. They would face the challenges ahead as a united force, their love for their village and each other guiding their every step.
