Whispers of the Mystic: The Chronicles of Elric and the Summoned Pegasus
·
Published 6/21/2023In a sweet and leisurely paced tale, skilled wizard Elric, hailing from modern-day New Zealand, stumbles upon a kobold village besieged by the undead. Confronted with the revelation that mythical and formidable animal mounts can be summoned, Elric conjures a courageous Pegasus, embarking on a lush journey where unexpected secrets unravel. As they traverse a captivating backdrop, he discovers that a sinister sorcerer is controlling the undead, thrusting him into a high-stakes battle to save the village. Will Elric's bravery and the power of the Pegasus be enough to triumph over darkness, or will their journey take a dark twist unforeseen by all?

The sunlight danced on the lake, casting thousands of shimmering reflections onto the surface. The grass whispered in the breeze and little birds chirped in the trees that lined the lakeside.
This idyllic scene was shattered by a terrible cry, that pierced right through Elric's ears. He could feel his heart skip a beat. A desperate scream of mortal terror, it sounded like it came from one of his new friends.
He bolted up from his seat on the lakeshore, where he had been taking a break from all the running around they had been doing. He searched frantically for the source of the scream. There! Through the trees - he caught sight of something that looked like a man running full pelt away from a group of three creatures. They appeared to be malicious werewolves with two heads and long, lanky bodies who were wielding menacing looking spears and swords. One of them chased after their prey rapidly, pursuing him around a tree and out of sight. Elric was too slow to act before the second wolf-like creature sprang after him, their long legs easily covering the ground between them and their prey, who was still running as fast as he could despite being so far ahead of Elric in the first place.
"Oh no!" Elric thought to himself as he watched helplessly from several dozen feet away. "I hope he doesn't die; I've only just got to know him."
Elric didn't get to know many people very well in his life anymore; he was old, and most people found him weird or creepy because he turned up for interviews dressed in robes and speaking foreign languages nobody spoke any more. Even if they didn't think he was some kind of weirdo, there was always something more important to do than chat with an old man who wore funny clothes and spoke strange languages. But today was different; today Elric had made some friends! They had played together earlier this morning while they waited for word that it was safe to leave their hiding place and make their way back home again (it wasn't). And now one of them might be dead! What would happen to Elric without any friends?! He needed those friends to keep him alive!! He couldn't live alone in this world anymore! It wasn't fair!
Suddenly, a powerful wind blew around Elric's face and hands. It stopped blowing just as quickly but not before it lifted off his hat and sent it flying into a bush nearby. The wind felt cold (despite being hot outside) and tingly like when you eat too many sweets at once or drink too much coffee or are shocked by static electricity from wearing wool socks on carpeting - but all over your skin instead of just your tongue or fingers or feet. Elric had never felt anything like this before, but somewhere deep inside him, he knew that this must be magic! But how? He hadn't done anything magical since...well, he couldn't remember when! He tried to remember what it was he had done last time that he could have used magic for...but nothing came to mind!
Then suddenly, out of nowhere came an extraordinary sound - like a thousand horses galloping across fields towards him at once - except there was no ground vibrating beneath his feet nor any wind rushing past his face - just pure beautiful music as it flowed through the air around him with such beauty that tears came unbidden to Elric's eyes as he heard it; tears not because what he was hearing sounded sad but simply because it sounded so beautiful that it made him want to cry with joy!! Then suddenly everything stopped happening all at once: The music stopped playing, the birds stopped singing, even the wind stopped blowing - everything just stopped moving in time for one single moment; then suddenly everything started moving again at once but backward!! Whatever had happened seemed to have somehow reset things back to how they were before whatever occurred! And now here came his hat flying back towards him from where it had ended up after flying off his head moments ago!!
But wait - it wasn't just his hat that flew towards him - along with it came someone else - someone riding something unfamiliar down through the air towards Elric at blistering speed - but then landed on two feet about ten meters away from where Elric stood staring dumbfounded at the whole thing! Instead of stopping abruptly, however, this person went straight through a tree behind them without slowing down whatsoever! The figure staggered forward slightly, appearing disoriented after passing through the tree unscathed despite traveling at such high speed; they straightened up again when they'd passed through the tree and took off their helmet, which they placed on top of their head (the helmet they were wearing on top of their head). The helmet matched almost exactly what Elric himself wore except that this one wasn't dull brown or faded blue but bright red with white spots all over like one big strawberry smoothie that hadn't been stirred properly yet!!!
The person who emerged from the tree was a young girl, no older than fifteen. She had wild, curly hair that flowed down her back like a waterfall of flames. Her eyes were a vibrant shade of green that seemed to glow, filled with a mixture of determination and curiosity. She wore a worn-out, tattered cloak that barely provided any cover, revealing a patchwork collection of mismatched clothes underneath. As she made her way towards Elric, he tried to gather his thoughts, struggling to comprehend the strange events that had just unfolded.
"Who... who are you?" Elric stammered, his voice quivering with a mix of fear and awe.
The young girl approached him, a mischievous grin spread across her face. "The name's Talia," she replied, her voice tinged with a hint of mischief. "And it seems like you could use a little magic in your life, old man."
Elric blinked in disbelief. Magic? It had been decades since he last dabbled in the arcane arts. He had long abandoned his role as a sorcerer, consigning his powers to fading memories. But as he looked at Talia, he felt a flicker of that forgotten power beginning to rekindle within him.
"How did you do that?" Elric asked, gesturing toward the spectacle that had just occurred.
Talia shrugged, swinging her backpack off her shoulder to rummage inside. "I've always had a knack for bending the rules of reality," she replied casually. "I was just passing by and happened to catch a glimpse of your little predicament. So, I thought, why not lend a helping hand?"
As she spoke, Talia retrieved a small, glowing crystal from her backpack, its ethereal glow casting a warm light on her face. She extended it towards Elric with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Take it," she urged. "It's a relic, handed down through generations. With it, you'll unlock a world of possibilities."
Elric hesitated, his weathered hands trembling as he reached out to take the crystal. It felt cool to the touch, pulsing with an otherworldly energy that flowed into his veins. The moment the crystal made contact with his skin, a surge of power coursed through him, igniting familiar sensations he thought he had lost forever.
Now, Elric could clearly recall the last time he had used magic. It was during a time when the land had been consumed by darkness, overrun by creatures born of nightmares. Elric had stepped forward to confront the malevolence, using his powers to protect those he cared for. But as the battle raged on, he paid a heavy price, losing his friends and nearly his own life.
The memory spurred a renewed fire within him, propelling him to stand tall, embracing the power that surged through his veins once more. With a newfound sense of purpose, he turned his gaze to Talia, a sense of gratitude filling his eyes.
"Thank you, Talia," Elric said, his voice now filled with determination. "I may be old, but I am not done fighting just yet. Together, we shall face the darkness and bring light to this world once more."
Talia grinned, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I was hoping you'd say that," she replied, her voice reflecting the same determination. "It's time to reclaim what has been lost and usher in a new era of magic."
And so, Elric and Talia joined forces, their fates intertwined as they embarked on an epic quest to restore magic to the world. They would encounter dangerous creatures, unravel ancient mysteries, and face their deepest fears. But together, they would prove that age was just a number and that the power of friendship and magic could overcome any darkness that threatened to consume the land.
As they journeyed forward, the sunlight danced on the lake behind them, casting thousands of shimmering reflections onto the surface. The grass whispered in the breeze, harmonizing with the sounds of nature. And in the clearing, Elric and Talia stood side by side, ready to embrace the unknown and usher in a new chapter in the tale of magic.
