My hand slipped into the pocket of my bathrobe, retrieving the lamp. The smooth ceramic in my hand felt like a hot coal. Even through the fabric of my robe, I could feel it's heat burning my palm.

The building was drab, with a dingy white sign out front reading "Lamps For All Your Needs". They didn't have any windows, though they did have two large garage doors rolled up to let some light in. When I had walked in past the threshold, a glowing purple haze hung in the air; it made me feel as if I was walking through a cloud of dry ice at a rock concert. It was kind of cool looking.
I had wandered around the store for quite awhile before finding this thing with the help of one of their attendants. He pointed me to aisle 33, where I pawed over dozens of other lamps until finally finding mine buried in the very back corner behind a bunch of other lamps that looked exactly like it.
But only mine glowed purple. That was how I knew this was the one that I had been seeking all along.
I'd asked him about it, and he'd said - or rather rambled - that there were all sorts of different kinds of lamps in here for all sorts of purposes: some will grant you eternal life; some can turn you into whatever animal you want; some can give you unlimited wealth; and others can do just about anything else you can think of! But they're all too expensive... so instead they just put them up on display and hope someone will buy them anyway!
