Walla and the Beast
·
Published 2/28/2023Fearless yet cautious old Walla, an anthropomorphic antelope, must decide between protecting his homeland and embarking on a mystical journey that could answer his personal questions... Only to be challenged by Hey and The Beast - an evil, mythical monster. Can Walla and Hey courageously face their fears and uncover a truth that will change their lives forever?
"Look, I just want to be alone!" Old Walla shouted at the figure blocking his path. The figure was dressed in a long blue cloak and wore a hood that hid its face.
"That is not possible." It replied in a raspy voice. "You have been chosen. You must leave today and travel with me on this journey."
"I don't care what you say! Go away!" Old Walla stormed off down the road and continued muttering to himself about how he just wanted some peace and quiet for once. After walking for what felt like hours, he sat down under a large tree and began chewing on some leaves.
Old Walla lived in the ancient African lands of the Yazon, creatures who resembled anthropomorphic antelope. They were extremely mystical, often taking old proverbs literally, hence why they had so many taboos they needed to follow. The most important taboo was that no one could cross the great rivers surrounding their land, or else The Beast would appear and kill them. As if on cue, a shadow passed over Old Walla as he sat there chewing leaves and a loud roar thundered through the sky above him. He looked up to see a giant black bird circling overhead with glowing red eyes, flapping its wings angrily as it surveyed the land around it.
"It's The Beast! I knew something was going to go wrong!" He cried out and began running blindly through the trees away from where he stood. Suddenly he tripped over something in front of him and fell flat onto his face. When he opened his eyes he saw a man lying on the ground with his arms crossed underneath his head.
"Hello." The man said as he yawned slightly before sitting up and brushing dirt off his clothes. He looked at Old Walla curiously, who was still sprawled out on the ground with his legs splayed out behind him awkwardly. "Are you alright?" He asked when he saw how shocked Old Walla looked.
"Y-Yes... I'm fine..." He stuttered trying to collect himself as he got back onto his feet slowly while dusting himself off with one hand. "I'm just not used to seeing people here... Especially humans... You must be a cursed man." He added in response to the confused look on the man's face after noticing his rather strange attire compared to everyone else's clothing that was worn by those who lived within Yazon territory.
"Oh yeah? Why do you think that?" He asked curiously leaning forward slightly as he awaited Old Walla's answer hoping it wasn't going to be anything bad or rude towards him or his kind, since it seemed like that had happened quite a lot lately whenever he met new people who didn't know any better about humans being alive anymore after being wiped out by an apocalyptic event many centuries ago.
"Because you're here in Yazon territory." He replied simply before continuing on after noticing how shocked this man looked at hearing this from him without even blinking or saying anything; "Don't worry though, I won't tell anyone that you're here because it would bring shame upon me if I did so... And how does your kind go about telling someone their cursed anyway? Do you need some sort of special material for that?" He asked curiously as he started walking around the man observing every detail of his appearance that stood out compared to everyone else he had seen thus far while thinking about whether or not humans were still wearing these clothes or if they were just regular clothes they wore back then before they became extinct like all other animals used to wear back in those days before they went extinct too due to something called 'global warming' happening; however that didn't seem like something bad until now considering some species thought it would be cool to start burning things called 'fossil fuels' which caused massive damage to Mother Nature which then made her sicker than she already was after having suffered through an apocalypse many years ago meaning she couldn't heal herself anymore but then again maybe she did heal herself but humans just kept making her sicker again by killing animals she was supposed to take care of plus making her angry by polluting her air by burning things called 'carbon emissions' which caused her to get even angrier than she already was due to letting humans do whatever they wanted without consequences whatsoever - like originally allowing them inhabit her beautiful lands but then later taking them away from them because they kept doing bad things which angered Mother Nature even more than she already was - which made her unleash another apocalypse this time sending an asteroid hurtling towards Earth where it collided with our planet causing all life upon it (except for humans) to die therefore destroying everything on Earth including the entire planet itself; however this only killed all life upon Earth leaving the moon intact somehow - where animals were supposed to live peacefully together without fear of dying from some destructive event happening; despite Mother Nature planning this apocalypse from beginning to end with every animal knowing about it beforehand (including humans), nothing changed afterwards except for humans thinking nothing could happen like this ever again because Mother Nature wouldn't allow it so therefore nothing bad could ever happen again unlike when other animals tried waking up Mother Nature from her slumber by singing songs like 'Earth Angel' by a boy band called 'The Monkees' so she could help them destroy their enemies but then later decided against destroying those animals who tried waking her up because they were too cute and innocent looking; unfortunately this proved wrong when those same animals tried waking up Mother Nature prematurely once again but this time causing another apocalypse where everything died except for humans - who were supposed to die during said apocalypse - but survived by hiding underground or underwater allowing them to live past said apocalypse forgetting all about it whilst Mother Nature lied dormant resting within herself recovering from said apocalypse while other creatures went along living their lives normally as if nothing happened.)
"I beg your pardon?" The man asked interrupting Old Walla's thoughts when he realized he had been standing there staring at him blankly without saying anything for quite some time now without realizing it; "Did you say something?" He asked when Old Walla didn't answer him right away after realizing what happened moments earlier in real time when he finally snapped out of his trance-like state once again muttering incoherently under his breath while closing his eyes tightly shut while pinching himself repeatedly until finally speaking clearly enough for the man standing in front of him to understand what he had said moments earlier; "Yes... I said I don't know how my kind goes about telling someone their cursed because I've never been cursed myself..." He explained calmly with a hint of sadness in his voice after remembering why no one should ever curse someone else because curses always backfire meaning whoever placed said curse upon someone else would also suffer from it themselves thereby making cursing others pointless and senseless since all curses done unto others eventually come back unto oneself making curses pointless anyway; however before continuing further into explaining how curses work among humanity, Old Walla suddenly jerked backwards when the ground beneath both of their feet started trembling violently making both men fall down onto their knees next to each other lying side-by-side facing each other looking into each other's eyes as they waited patiently until finally everything stopped shaking around them indicating whatever danger passed them by leaving them unharmed at least for now...
