Published 4/18/2023Under heroic circumstances, two young friends Miguel and Sofia embark on an adventurous and enthralling journey through uncharted lands and beyond to protect their Iron Age Pacific kingdom with the help of their mystical Fala Portugues melodies.

The last time I had a dream this realistic was when I ate those mushrooms.
I remember that the mushrooms were the kind that made you fall up instead of down, and my stomach had been upside down for days. My insides were all twisted like a pretzel, and in the dream that's how I felt too.
I had been swimming through a sea of dark red blood looking for Sofia, and my body felt heavy with it. Every time I moved my muscles felt as if they were being torn from within. My lungs burned and my head throbbed when I swam up to the surface for air, but then I'd go right back down again.
The blood would be everywhere, blotting out what little light there was, and then the water would clear and I could see her. And then she was gone again and I'd have to swim harder to catch up to her.
And then another wave of pain would crash over me, and it would take forever to claw my way out of it again, only to find that she was still just out of reach.
She was on an island surrounded by lava, or perhaps she was floating in a lake of fire with black clouds swirling around her. Her hair floated around her in wild tendrils like flames, and every time she turned toward me I felt as though she could see through me like glass. She stared at me with eyes full of longing and sadness, her lips moving silently as if she wanted to say something but couldn't remember what it was.
This went on for years, or at least it felt like it did. It might have just been one night that turned into morning.
When the sun finally rose, Sofia faded away into nothingness with a soft sigh and a smile on her face, melting into the ground until nothing remained but a few bubbles rising to the surface. But even then I wouldn't give up looking for her because I knew that she was still there somewhere beneath the waves. That if I just kept staring down into the water hard enough then eventually she'd show back up again. So that's what I did.
And after another endless stretch of time, there she was again! This time she wasn't alone though; beside her stood a man wearing a crown made of coral while he swept his arm out over the horizon in greeting toward me. He smiled at me with red eyes like embers in his face, making me think he must be burning hot or else his skin must be very cold because he didn't look comfortable at all where he stood in front of all that lava. He wore loose silks that fluttered around him like tarps caught in a storm as he walked across the stone towards me and wrapped his arms around Sofia's waist before kissing her cheek gently like he'd known her forever, and yet their embrace seemed unfamiliar to me. When their lips touched, sparks flew off from between them like fireworks going off above their heads while their shadows stretched across the ground and overlapped each other until they became one shadow instead of two separate ones.
The man turned out to be an antagonist in disguise, causing chaos on the island and wreaking havoc upon its inhabitants. And still, despite his evil ways, he managed to win Sofia's affection temporarily. This caused an internal conflict within me, as I screamed out of frustration, desperate to save Sofia from this destructive relationship.
I watched as Sofia willingly walked into the volcano, unafraid of the imminent danger. The heat that would easily burn any other mortal had no impact on her. In fact, as she ventured deeper, her hair inexplicably grew longer and turned ice-white. She appeared to defy the natural laws imposed on everyone else.
As I attempted to follow Sofia, my emotional state compounded with confusion as I encountered a second man – tall with clothes made of leaves and red eyes glowing with rage. He gripped a bone cane with white knuckles, yet despite his intimidating presence, I couldn't fully understand the role he played in this conflict. The anger within me intensified as I became overwhelmed by countless tragic memories and heartbreaks, feeling as if they were all connected to Sofia's current predicament.
In my pursuit of trying to save her from this volcanic doom, I found myself blurring the lines between dreams and reality, memories and illusions, and life and death. And even though it felt as if an eternity had passed in that endless cycle of chasing and letting go, there remained a flicker of hope -- that one day I would pull her out of the darkness and into safety again. Even if that moment existed beyond forever, beyond time itself, I was determined never to give up on Sofia.
With each breath, I continued the seemingly eternal battle against the unknown antagonist, embracing every emotion and pushing through the boundaries that distinguished dreams from reality – reaching for that elusive moment when Sofia and I would be reunited once more.
