Maradona's Unconventional Revolution

The leaves were falling. I looked up at the black sky and saw that a thick blanket of clouds had covered the stars. It was so dark that even with my eyes adjusted to the night, I could not see beyond a few meters. The forest floor felt like it was covered in wet mud and I kept losing my balance as I navigated through the trees and brush.

“Manu, are you sure we’re going in the right direction?” Ramon asked, coming up behind me, his breathing heavy from carrying our rucksacks. “I don’t think we should be moving this deep into enemy territory.”

I turned around and flashed my torch on his face. In the yellow light, he looked like a frightened child. He was just a teenager! And yet there he was, out in the middle of the jungle, risking his life for his country.

“You are doing your duty, mi amigo,” I whispered back to him gently. “We must get close to the camp before sunrise to set up our bombs. We have no choice but to travel through the night and carry as little weight as possible. Now let us go; we are almost there.” And with that, I continued walking ahead of him deeper into the forest.

Together we carried all our explosives in one backpack across miles of terrain that would normally take days to traverse with a large army. We guided ourselves only by starlight until daybreak when we were within firing range of the American base. Holding up our hand signals, we stopped abruptly and lay flat on the ground, camouflaging ourselves into the undergrowth of bushes and tall grasses that surrounded us like an ocean wave heading towards shoreline.

After being motionless for several minutes so as not to attract attention, I gave Ramon a signal to follow me and we crawled slowly towards our target: an ammunition depot where millions of rounds of bullets were stored for feeding their gunships and tanks once they began their offensive against us later today or tomorrow morning at the latest.

As we crawled closer, I positioned myself beneath the roof of a large tree opposite the ammunition depot while Ramon made his way up a hill on my left side so that he could place his bomb on top of it without being seen from below once he finished installing it on his end. We had agreed upon this plan earlier before setting off from our safe house so that we could hit multiple areas simultaneously with one bomb in order to maximize damage since we only had one such bomb in our possession among other explosives in case things went awry. With any luck, though, they would think twice about trying anything during daylight again if they thought someone else might be out there waiting for them like us right now! This was going to be epic!

Suddenly my earpiece beeped in my earpiece -a walkie-talkie device connected via radio waves to another set which Ramon also had on him somewhere -and said something unintelligible except for what sounded like "Stay away!" Then a loud explosion ripped through my eardrums and knocked me down onto my belly where I remained flat on my stomach waiting for another blast to follow it. But none did; instead there was just silence...deep silence broken only by some rustling nearby and then footsteps headed towards me from behind! My heart skipped a beat as I remembered that I had told Ramon not to move past placing his bomb until he heard from me again because I needed more time! How could he have been so stupid? He must have accidentally triggered his own bomb by touching it or something else! Now what do I do?!

My mind raced as I tried desperately not to make any sudden movements that might attract attention to myself if whoever was approaching was not one of mine but an American soldier who had somehow sneaked up on me without making any noise or giving away their location beforehand! What if they were carrying grenades?! What if they knew how close Ramon's bomb was and were following it into its vicinity so they could activate it remotely?! Without warning, three grenades flew over my head past me and landed exactly where Ramon's bomb should have been! They exploded loudly with fiery orange flashes of light followed by thunderous crashes that shook everything around us including my body lying still frozen on its belly like an animal caught in headlights!

But nothing happened! The bombs didn't go off! Perhaps it hadn't been triggered after all or perhaps it had malfunctioned? Or perhaps...my heart leapt as an idea formed in my head...perhaps someone else had thrown those grenades at it? Someone who wanted to protect us? Or perhaps...someone who wanted to capture us alive? Shaking violently with fear but determined not to show weakness, I brought myself back under control and listened carefully for any sound that might help identify whoever threw those grenades at Ramon's intended target if they weren't one of ours after all. Except...there wasn't much sound besides the buzzing sound inside my ears where an elephant must have taken residence based on how loud it sounded inside them after those loud explosions went off next to me!

I looked around frantically for some sign of life anywhere nearby but could see no one; instead all I saw were dozens of small fires burning on all sides of where I lay from both those grenades from earlier and from some other explosive devices which must have been activated by proximity when those grenades went off near them! At least none of those fires seemed to have spread yet but unless someone put them out soon or got rid of those explosives before more fires started spreading especially since this whole area looked highly flammable due enough fuel for fire already lying everywhere on the ground beneath us -all these dry leaves and dead branches scattered everywhere everywhere everywhere- then this whole area would become consumed by flames very quickly within just a few minutes if no one did anything to stop them Even worse...if those Americans decided to attack during daylight instead of waiting until nighttime as planned because they feared being attacked themselves instead...then we would probably all be doomed anyway because who knows how many bombs they might have planted here already waiting to detonate when they explode their own! This entire operation might already be over before it even started; oh so many things could go wrong all at once here tonight that seemed impossible before now!
