Spirits of Shadows: A Hilarious Haunting
·
Published 6/28/2023In the haunting streets of Lusaka, the fearless newlyweds, Tobias and Leah, willingly inhabit a decrepit Victorian mansion with a sinister history, unaware of its vengeful, witchdoctor past. As the agitated spirit clings to its grudge against the living, the couple finds themselves caught in a hilarious battle against the otherworldly presence. But as strange occurrences escalate, Tobias and Leah reluctantly join forces with a wisecracking priest, plunging headfirst into the shadows to confront the wrathful specter. Will their wits and banter be enough to triumph over the ghostly adversary, or will their comedic quest turn into a deadly supernatural showdown?

Tobias moved up to the house, looking for a place for himself and his wife Leah. The house seemed fairly nice from the outside, though there were a few things that made it seem like nobody lived in it. A window was broken, but not badly enough to break through the curtain into the room. The door had a couple of scratches on the door itself, but nothing that looked like it was done by an animal. What struck him most though was the smell - there was no smell of any kind of food being cooked or dishes being washed. There was also no smell of sweat or body odor, which left him feeling very uneasy.
The inside of the house wasn't much better. The floors creaked as he walked across them, and the furniture looked worn down without being too filthy. He seemed to be in a living room area - there was a couch with a broken leg, and a coffee table that looked like it would snap if you put anything too heavy on it. To his right was what looked like a kitchen, with a couple of cabinets hanging off their hinges and pots and pans lying around on almost every surface. He didn't see anything that looked like plates or cups though, which only added to his unease.
He took a step back out of the living room and saw what could only be described as an entrance hall - three doors leading off to different rooms (most likely bedrooms), a coat rack that had one arm missing so that it looked like somebody had just taken one of their coats off rather than putting any new ones on, and an umbrella stand with no umbrellas in it. Tobias stepped closer to it and tried opening one of the doors behind him when he heard a noise from one of the doors marked 'bathroom'. He turned around and saw that one of the doors had indeed opened just a bit more than it had been before he tried to open them.
"Leah? Is that you?" he called out, but nobody answered him as he walked over to the door and pushed on it gently to open it further. Once he got it open far enough to see inside, he found himself staring at an old-fashioned bathtub with some sort of dark liquid slowly dripping out of its faucet into the tub below it. He wanted to look away but his eyes just wouldn't let him - he couldn't stop staring at what appeared to be blood slowly running out into the tub below it until he finally snapped out of his trance-like state and called Leah's name again while looking around for her in every direction except for where she actually was behind him in another room. He ran back over to where she was supposed to be standing waiting for him - "Leah? Where are you? I've found this really weird bathroom..."
Before Tobias could finish saying something else about how strange this place seemed, Leah rushed into view behind him with her face paled white as ghost-white linen sheets and her hand covering her mouth in shock after seeing what Tobias had been staring at moments ago. She quickly grabbed Tobias' arm and started pulling him towards the front door as fast as she could manage without breaking his arm in half first before taking off running once they were outside again. After getting far enough away from whatever had terrified her so much inside that house, she finally stopped running, let go of Tobias' arm, took her hand down from covering her mouth and started breathing heavily while shaking all over again while looking back at where they'd been earlier.
"What is with you?!" Tobias asked as she kept looking back at the house they'd just gotten away from while trying to catch her breath again later when they were sitting on opposite sides facing each other across a small park bench by now: "Why did you run away and leave me alone there? You could have at least waited for me so we could get out together!"
"I... I don't know!" Leah said after catching her breath for long enough so she could speak again: "I think I might have seen something... scary inside there!"
Tobias sighed, the unease creeping back into his bones. "What do you mean you saw something scary?" he asked, his voice filled with worry and frustration. "We can't just run away without knowing what it was. We need to go back and investigate. What if someone is in danger?"
Leah's eyes widened at Tobias's suggestion. "Are you out of your mind? Did you not see the blood in that bathroom? This place is clearly not right. We need to call the police, let them handle it. We shouldn't get involved."
Tobias shook his head, his determination unwavering. "The police will take hours to arrive, and who knows what could happen in that time. We have to at least check if there's someone in danger. We'll be quick, I promise."
Leah looked torn, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. She knew Tobias was right, but the fear pulsed through her veins like a relentless storm. Eventually, she relented, nodding her head in agreement. "Fine, but we go together. No more splitting up."
Tobias nodded and stood up from the bench, offering Leah a reassuring smile. He hoped that this decision wouldn't come back to haunt them. The couple made their way back to the house, their steps cautious and deliberate. The broken window came back into view, the shards of glass glinting like malevolent teeth in the moonlight.
As they approached the front door, the air grew thick with a sense of foreboding. Tobias reached out, his hand trembling slightly, and pushed the door open. The hinges screeched in protest, the sound echoing through the silent house.
They stepped inside, the familiar sense of dread washing over them like a tidal wave. The broken furniture and dilapidated state of the house seemed even more eerie now. Tobias reached for Leah's hand, gripping it tightly as they moved deeper into the darkness.
They moved through the living room and back towards the entrance hall, their eyes scanning each door. Against their better judgment, they chose the door closest to the bathroom where Leah had seen the blood. The door groaned as they opened it, revealing a room shrouded in shadows.
They cautiously stepped inside, their breath held in anticipation. The room appeared to be a study, filled with dusty bookshelves lined with old volumes. Tobias ran his fingers along the spines, his curiosity piqued. At the corner of his eye, he noticed a flicker of movement near the window.
He turned towards it, his heart pounding in his chest. There, at the edge of the room, stood a figure. A figure dressed in tattered clothing, its face hidden beneath a hood. It explored the room with an ethereal grace, its movements almost otherworldly. Tobias and Leah held their breath, frozen in fear.
Suddenly, the figure turned its head towards them, piercing eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. It took a step towards them, and a wave of terror washed over Tobias and Leah. They darted out of the study, their footsteps echoing in the empty house.
As they reached the entrance hall, they felt a sudden gust of wind, pushing them forward. The front door slammed shut, trapping them inside. Panic surged through their veins as they desperately tried to open it, but it remained stubbornly shut.
"What is happening?" Leah whispered, her voice laden with fear.
"I don't know," Tobias replied, his voice trembling. "But we need to find another way out."
