"I'm sorry, Professor, but I don't think that's going to be possible."

"Miss Granger,"

"Hermione. Miss Granger is my mother."

"Hermione then. We've been over this, you are the best candidate for this position. You're young, intelligent, skilled in your field and most importantly qualified for the position."

She got up from her chair, "I appreciate that Sir, but I must refuse the offer." She looked at me with those big brown eyes, "You see, I'm very much in demand at the moment and I'll have to decline your offer."

I smiled at her and walked around my desk to stand beside her. I took her hand and led her to the sofa in my office. "Sit down Hermione. Let's talk about this." I sat down next to her. Her perfume was soft and elegant. The aroma filled my nostrils as it drifted away from her body and gently floated towards mine. It was a pleasant scent that had a calming effect on my body. I could feel myself relax as if some unknown force had filled me with a warm energy. "Tell me why you have no time to work on this project?"

She turned towards me and looked into my eyes which seemed to have a hypnotic effect on hers as they were now filled with great intensity. "Well..." she said as she lowered her gaze towards my lips and then back at my eyes again "I have a lot going on at the moment, not just school but some things outside of it too." She paused briefly before continuing "but most importantly I don't want to get bogged down by any kind of romantic relationships right now."

I smiled like a predator who just caught his prey staring helplessly at him while he feverishly gulped it down after hours of vigorous hunting. "Romantic relationships can be quite tiring sometimes don't you think?"

She nodded slowly as she felt lost deep inside herself where all kinds of thoughts were swirling around inside of her head like a tornado waiting to happen. She didn't know how but she knew he was able to read her mind like an open book because somehow he seemed to be able to control everything around him in an imperceptible way like magic. But she knew it wasn't magic, it was something else much more seductively powerful than that; it was something that made everything seem so simple yet so hard for someone like her who loved challenges too much to give up on them easily regardless of what happened next between them or what she would decide afterwards.
