Whispers of a Sunlit Night

I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

My name is Talha and I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been a big fan of Twice ever since their debut 3 years ago but it wasn’t until June 2018 that my life changed forever.

I was on holiday in Vancouver, Canada when I decided to go check out the place where all the K-Pop idols go for vacation – The Westin Bayshore Vancouver Airport Hotel. This is where Twice stayed back in 2016 when they were here for their first world tour, Girl’s Generation too when they were still active and even BTS. Everyone goes here because of its proximity to the airport and because it’s very cosy, quiet, and relaxing. Anyone who’s anyone can be found at The Westin Bayshore. And so I went there one day after work to see if I could find any idols by chance. But as I approached the hotel lobby, my phone vibrated and alerted me to a new message from my wife. She said that she was sick and couldn’t make it back home from work tonight so I should stay at our usual spot and wait for her there. “Please don’t try to go anywhere else darling” she pleaded as she knew how much I love being around K-Pop idols. And so there I was in the lobby of The Westin Bayshore Vancouver Airport Hotel alone with nothing but my thoughts about how much of a lucky man I am for having such a beautiful, loving and understanding wife - the best one in the entire world - but also a bit sad at the same time for not being able to meet any idols that night. With nothing left to do but wait for my wife outside, I sat down on a nearby chair, took out my phone from my pocket and started searching up some videos on YouTube. And then suddenly…

*DING!* My phone rang! It was my wife calling me! “She must have finished work early today!” I thought as I answered the call without delay. “Hello darling! How are you? Is everything alright?” My wife replied with “I can't talk right now” before hanging up on me, perplexing me greatly. This was unusual for my wife to do – was she in some sort of trouble or hiding something? With anxious thoughts and no way to know the reason behind her sudden behavior, I went into the hotel lobby to see if she was still there.

To my astonishment, she stood near the entrance door, dressed like a Korean idol. Her hair was up in a ponytail, she wore black lipstick and minimal makeup – all characteristic of a K-Pop star. Confused, but indulging my wife, I approached her and asked about her well-being and why she had hung up on me earlier. She replied with a cough and looked at me with her beautiful brown eyes before requesting my handkerchief – though it felt more like a command. It seemed as though she wanted me to play the role of a typical Korean boyfriend, treating her as if we were a high-profile couple out in public.

Rumors had been swirling that we had been together for seven long years, and someone seemed to be spreading these falsehoods without our knowledge or consent. But as we attended the Twice concert later that evening, things improved. We had a fantastic time watching Jihyo perform live and even enjoyed special front-row seats. Despite the untruths that had brought us here, we were able to enjoy the concert and each other's company. #Twice #Jihyo #Concert #TwiceVancouver #JihyoVancouver #Talha #Wife #Kpop #Idol #Australia #Canada

The concert ended with a resounding cheer from the crowd, and as the lights dimmed, my wife and I made our way out of the venue amidst the throngs of excited fans. I couldn't hide the smile on my face; it had been an unforgettable experience. But as we walked down the street, hand in hand, I couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity lingering in the back of my mind.

"You know, honey," I began, breaking the comfortable silence between us. "I can't help but wonder why you decided to surprise me like this. Dressing up as a K-Pop idol and all."

She looked at me, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well, you've always been so passionate about K-Pop and it's been such a big part of our lives. I thought, why not make your dream come true for a night? Give you a taste of what it feels like to be surrounded by the music you love."

I couldn't help but chuckle. She always knew how to make me feel special, how to bring a sense of whimsy and excitement into our lives. And tonight was no exception.

As we continued walking, our conversation drifted to the incredible performance we had just witnessed. The stage presence, the powerful vocals, the synchronized dance moves - it was a spectacle like no other. And at the center of it all was Jihyo, whose captivating presence had enthralled me from the moment she stepped on stage.

"You know," my wife said, breaking the spell Jihyo had cast over me. "I saw how you were looking at her during the concert."

Caught off guard, I stammered, trying to gather my thoughts. "I...uh...well, she's an incredible performer. It's hard not to be mesmerized."

She laughed, her melodious voice soothing my nerves. "It's okay, Talha. I understand. Just remember, she's just a celebrity. We have something real, something special."

Her words struck a chord within me. She was right, of course. As much as I admired Jihyo, she was simply a distant figure on a stage. The love and connection I shared with my wife were far more meaningful than any celebrity crush.

As we reached the hotel entrance, my wife turned to face me, her expression turning serious for a moment. "Promise me something, Talha. Promise me that no matter how caught up you might become in the fantasy of this world, you'll always remember what's real."

I nodded, my heart swelling with love and gratitude for this remarkable woman by my side. "I promise, my love. You are my reality, my world."

With that, we stepped into the hotel, leaving the K-Pop dreams behind us and embracing the reality of our love. It was then that I realized the true beauty of our journey - that even amidst the whirlwind of fantasy, we had found a way to grow even stronger as a couple.

And so, with renewed determination to cherish what truly mattered, we embarked on the next chapter of our lives. With each passing day, we learned to dance to the rhythm of our own love story, and in doing so, we crafted a tale far more beautiful and meaningful than any K-Pop fantasy could ever be.

Together, we would navigate the highs and lows, the twists and turns, and create a tale that was uniquely ours. And no matter what adventures awaited us in the future, I knew one thing for certain - as long as I had my wife by my side, I would continue to embrace the unexpected with open arms.

For it was in the unknown that our love thrived, and it was in the unexpected that our story truly came to life.
