When I opened my eyes, I expected to see the same old familiar room. The one with faded blue walls and a poster of a band I didn't even like anymore. But instead, I found myself standing in the middle of a crowded street in a futuristic city.

The buildings towered above me, their neon lights reflecting off the wet pavement. Hover cars whizzed past, leaving streaks of light in their wake. It was like something out of a sci-fi movie.

I looked down at myself, confused. I was wearing a sleek black jumpsuit and had some kind of device strapped to my arm. None of it was familiar to me.

"What the hell is going on?" I muttered to myself.

"You're finally awake," a voice said from behind me.

I spun around to see a man leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette. He wore a long trench coat and had slicked-back hair that shone under the neon lights.

"Who are you?" I asked him.

The man took another drag from his cigarette before flicking it onto the ground and stamping it out with his boot.

"I'm just here to help you," he said, pushing himself off the wall and walking towards me.

"Help me with what?"

He stopped in front of me and looked into my eyes. There was something about his gaze that made me trust him immediately.

"To escape," he said simply.

"Escape? From what?"

"This world," he said, gesturing around us. "It's not real."

I laughed nervously. "Yeah, okay buddy. What's this, some kind of prank show?"

The man sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I know it's hard to believe, but trust me when I say that none of this is real."

"Why should I trust you?"

"Because deep down, you know it's true," he said, looking into my eyes again. "You've always felt like something was off, like you didn't belong here. That's because you don't."

I shook my head, trying to process everything he was saying. "But...how? How is any of this possible?"

"The world you know is a simulation," he said. "A virtual reality created by an advanced AI."

I stared at him in disbelief. "That's...that's insane."

"Believe me now?" he asked.

I nodded slowly. "Yeah, I guess I do."

"Good," he said, a small smile playing on his lips. "Now let's get out of here."

He reached out and grabbed my hand, pulling me towards him. Suddenly, the world around us started to glitch and flicker.

"What's happening?" I asked, panic rising in my chest.

"We're breaking free," he said, his voice calm. "Just hold on to me."

I tightened my grip on his hand as the glitches grew more intense. The buildings melted away into lines of code and the sound of the city was replaced with static.

And then, just like that, it was over.

We were standing in a white room with nothing but a door in front of us.

"We made it," the man said, letting go of my hand and taking a step back.

I turned to face him, still trying to process everything that had just happened.

"Thank you," I said finally. "For helping me escape."

He smiled at me and shook his head. "Don't thank me yet. The hard part is just beginning."
