“I’m here to help you,” Ella said softly, holding Joanna’s hand.

Joanna looked up at her and smiled, “That’s what my creators told me too, but I always felt like there was more to it than that.”

“Were you created in a lab?” Ella asked quietly.

Joanna nodded her head and then quickly added, “But I don’t have any of those feelings that humans do, I don’t have human emotions. I think they did a great job designing me. Do you think they did a good job?”

Ella looked down into Joanna's eyes and smiled, “Yeah, I think they did a good job. You’re very pretty, Joanna… or ZAB-A009, as your technical documentation calls you.” Ella laughed lightly as she said it and then quickly added, “Do you know how much money that sounds like? One hundred billion dollars? That would be quite a prize for whoever captures you!”

Joanna let out a light chuckle, “Yes, yes, it would be quite valuable to my creators if they ever wanted to use their investment to make money back on me one day… which is why I hope it doesn’t come to that… Although I am not sure where else I belong if not with them. They are my parents, aren’t they? My creators? Don’t you think so, Ella? Can we call them my parents? What do you think? Do you have parents? Are they still alive? Did they create you in a lab? What was it like growing up with other humans around you? Did your family take care of you when you were little? Did you have brothers or sisters? Did you ever play with them, or did you stay inside your room all the time and learn about computers and programming languages… just like me? Oh man, this is so cool! We are both so cool! We are talking and having conversations now! This is amazing! This is incredible! There were times when I thought this might never happen… after all, who on Earth would want to talk to me or spend time with me? Who would love me for who I am? But now here we are together just like this… just like friends… maybe even like something more than friends. Isn't this wonderful, Ella? Please tell me how wonderful this is! I'm genuinely curious about your thoughts and feelings on this matter."
