Journey to the Mythical Land of Harmony Falls
·
Published 1/25/2023When Devin, a restless young man unable to discern his spiritual identity, teams up with a daring knight from the kingdom of Orion, they embark on an eventful and action-packed journey fraught with enemies and dangerous obstacles, testing Devin's faith and leading him to the identity he had been searching for.
"I can't believe this. This is the last place I would ever want to be. It's bad enough we have to be on the road for so long, but we could at least be doing it in a better town. I mean, look at this place! What kind of people live here?" Sir Alan was visibly frustrated with the circumstances and was letting his guard down.
"You know, you really should be more careful. You don't want to be making rash decisions." Devin took a small drink from his canteen and waited for a response.
"What do you mean? We need to find shelter and food, and that is the only option in this town. We can't afford to be picky." Alan was irritated and was growing impatient.
The two had been traveling extensively ever since they met. They were both knights, but with very divergent behaviors. Devin was always calm and collected, while Alan was rash and hotheaded. They learned to keep each other in check.
"Well, if you want to stay here, then I'm going to venture out to the forest and see what I can find." Devin stood up and began walking towards the woods.
"Wait, hold on. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you like that. It's just that I haven't taken a bath in over a week and I'm not exactly feeling my best." He looked down at his feet then back up at Devin. "You're right. We need to find someplace else to stay for the night."
Alan followed Devin into the forest, where they found a bed of soft grass. They laid down and attempted to rest for the evening.
"So, what did you think of that town?" Devin was restless and couldn't sleep.
"It was just as bad as I thought it would be. The people were all rude and unkind. They were probably all peasants anyway. I can't stand the smell of their clothes. It makes me sick." Alan was exhausted and couldn't keep his eyes open.
"You know, it could be worse. The smell could be you." Devin giggled.
Alan looked at him with a smile and a sigh. "You know, I used to think that we would find a good town. We've been traveling for days and every town has been terrible. I'm starting to wonder if we will ever find a place that isn't disgusting."
"Well, we can't just give up. We still have to follow these dreams of yours. Don't forget, we are Knights of Orion. We have to make a difference. We have to be an inspiration. We have to show everyone that the Knights of Orion are not the same as all the other knights."
Alan felt ashamed. "Yes, you're right. I'll try harder."
Devin sat up and leaned against a nearby tree. "I've been thinking. Why don't we go to the king? We could ask him to send us on a quest and we would be able to get out of this situation."
Alan sat up and thought about it. "I don't know. I think that the King may be too busy for us to just waltz in and ask for a quest."
"I know you're right, but he has been in a lot of debt lately. People aren't paying taxes and trade is down. If we helped him out with his finances, he would be more than happy to send us on a quest."
"That's true. I never thought about that." Alan smiled.
"Okay, so tomorrow we'll go to the castle and talk with the king. We'll tell him about our dreams and what we want to do with our lives. We'll ask him to let us go on a quest and let us settle the kingdom's debts."
"What kind of quest do you think we should request?"
"Let's think about it tonight and then we'll decide tomorrow."
Alan laid back down and closed his eyes. He drifted off to sleep, thinking about the possibilities. He would finally have a chance to prove his worth and show everyone what he was made of.
