Beyond Technology: A Journey to Find Balance

The 25 year old young man, Steven wandered aimlessly through the city of his birth, his life so far feeling unfulfilled and with no understanding of what defined him. He had longed since childhood patience, but his temperament ironically proved to be his undoing at times; a man of INTP personality type, he lived life on the edge, dabbling in drugs and the pleasures of life with little questioning or caution. The city lights reflected the melancholy in his face and he sighed deeply with no idea how to end his lackluster existence.

The events that changed his life began innocently enough; he was drawn in by the sound of a metallic clink and a voice calling out from an alleyway. A mechanical figure watched him pass, illuminated by a neon blue flash. Thus, started a curious journey in discovering a hidden world of technological rebels, who opposed the often-oppressive conditions of their homeland.

The leader of this world introduced herself as Chrysalis, and revealed to him her grand plan for revolution - a quieter, almost invisible force, but nevertheless meant to create a better future. Shocked yet intrigued, Steven refused to fully accept what he was presented but could not deny the slight call in his heart to follow this path.

Little by little, he found himself among the ranks of the technological rebels and his skills and sharp intelligence in understanding new technologies shocked and impressed his peers; it was as if he had truly found where he belonged. Alongside his newfound grassroots ‘family’, he began to investigate various futuristic theories and methodologies, learning critical thinking and understanding the mechanics of inventions and how they could be used to think outside traditional confines.

All that learning and mentorship needed a balance and Steven, who had always lived on the edge of excitement, yearned for the relief he found in drugs and vices outside this newfound family; finding he could never truly assert control when he gave in to every temptation. He soon found that Chrysalis was also giving in to a similar temptation, namely, her leader, a ruthless and powerful figure pulling the group's strings from the shadows, who to Steven seemed more threat than savior. As Steven slowly shared the truth of this new protector to his friends, those same people slowly changed their stance and turned away from the plan for revolution that had once encompassed their lives.

Steven's mission then moved from his former pursuits of pleasure and vice to the greater mission of carrying out the revolution and rescuing his family from the dark and dangerous world led by the shadow figure. Working as quickly as current standards of technology allowed, Steven forged ahead with a carefully planned mission - with just enough risk - that would put an end to the tyrant, and then hopefully restore the peace of the technological reincarnation that had once formed the promise of his future.

Driven by his desire for tactical justice, Steven and a brave few never second-guessed their plan and ran towards the fateful climax of the revolution. As clichés of epic battles are often unreliable, and there was no definitive result of the conflict to preserve romanticism, the fight revealed Steven's strength of character and the courage and loyalty of his comrades to one another. The climax was both harrowing and hard-fought, but in the end the courage and dedication of Steven and the rebels earned them a victory.

Finally, at the end of their journey, as they were returned to the reality of everyday life with long strides into the future, Steven found himself in a strange newfound peace. He continued following his newfound passion for invention and looked forward to carrying out all the ideas that he and his rebel technological family had developed. He also cherished the freedom to pursue and balance his desire for pleasure and vice with his need for a greater purpose. As he looked towards his future, he now believed he could always simultaneously, seek out excitement and luxury, and also stay true to his ultimate cause - the development and pursuit of a better tomorrow.
