Savannah's Arctic Adventure

I was born in San Francisco. It's a nice city, but it's not home. I spent my childhood in the city, but I never felt like it was mine. The hills of San Francisco are too steep for me. My family is from Alaska. We used to have a small shipping business up there. We've been in Alaska for generations and I've always wanted to go back.

Now that the business is no longer profitable, we've had to downsize and move back to the US. We're now based out of Teller, Alaska near the north pole where we can be close to our roots as well as distant enough from the rest of the world how we want to live. With a population of only ten thousand people, Teller is a quaint little town with a surprising amount of culture and character. It's beautiful place that feels like home already.

I used to fly planes when I was in college, so I'm currently working at the local airfield as an instructor while helping out where I can around our shipping business. Most days, I get paid peanuts doing both jobs, but I don't mind it that much because it means more time with my family during the day, which is really all that matters to me. As for my job as an instructor at the local airstrip, it's a pretty easy job. Kids these days don't know shit about hard work like we did back in Alaska or even back in San Francisco for that matter. These kids come from wealthy families and expect things handed to them on a silver platter, so many of them don't even realize how good they have it. The only thing they know how to do is leach off their parents' money or work their asses off until they're practically dead just so they can be rich one day. Isn't that what everyone wants when they grow up? Being rich? No thanks...I'll leave that shit to other people who want nothing more than money in their lives while they waste away their lives chasing after something they'll never catch. Money isn't everything, you know...you're dead once you got it anyway so what's the point?

Anyways, today I'm taking two students up on a short trip around the area before ending right here at the airport because there aren't any more scheduled lessons today. Since this place is so small and remote, scheduling lessons here usually takes careful planning because we only have one plane and one instructor here at the airstrip so if there are multiple bookings or cancellations last minute then you might end up with some downtime which sucks cause then you probably won't be able to take off for another hour or two until someone cancels and then gets re-scheduled again or whatever. Anyways today since there weren't any other lessons scheduled and one of my students cancelled last minute so he might not show up until tomorrow afternoon instead which is fine by me cause I'd rather take off earlier before sunset anyways instead of waiting till after dark like usual when we usually leave...it's just safer that way cause if something goes wrong up there while flying at night then chances are you're going down pretty quick without any sort of visibility whatsoever where as during daytime most accidents are due to pilot error anyways such as running out of gas or crashing into mountainside terrain and stuff like that...but now onto my students for today:

The first student is Andrew Farley who is an arrogant asshole who probably doesn't deserve his license yet so this will be fun seeing him try to keep his head straight up there in the sky since he has no idea how dangerous flying can truly be sometimes especially from people like him who think they're entitled just cause their parents are rich as hell and spoiled them rotten when they were kids until they turned into assholes who think they should get everything handed to them on a silver platter just like their spoiled-ass parents raised them too believe...which brings me to my second student:

The second student is Samantha Vickers who is also an asshole but she's actually quite cute albeit annoying sometimes with her constant whining about wanting new clothes every week...but she has one thing going for her which makes her bearable:

Her parents payed me extra money if I could make sure she learns how to fly alright because apparently her mom got airsick during her first flight ever and hasn't left home since then...so if Samantha can learn how to fly then maybe her mom will try it again too someday which would be nice since Samantha's dad has been having some health issues lately too so it would be nice if he could see his wife again sometime soon without worrying about her being air sick but anyways let's get on with this flight shall we?

Andrew climbs into the plane followed by his annoying bitch girlfriend Samantha who immediately starts bitching about how high up we are "So high! So scary!" etc etc which brings me back to why Andrew does NOT deserve his license yet since he doesn't seem afraid at all despite being high up with nothing but thin metal separating him from certain death...and speaking of certain death:
