Forbidden Magic

Ava's heart pounded in her chest as she ran through the darkened streets. The sound of her footsteps echoed off the towering buildings, a constant reminder of the danger that pursued her. She had to find a place to hide, to catch her breath and gather her thoughts.

Ducking into an alleyway, Ava pressed herself against the cold brick wall. She could hear the drones overhead, their mechanical whirring growing louder with each passing second. They were getting closer.

She cursed under her breath. How had it come to this? Just a few hours ago, she had been living a normal life, going about her daily routine like everyone else in the city. But then she had stumbled upon something she wasn't supposed to see, something that would change everything.
