Zatanna's Genie Wish Journey
·
Published 6/3/2023Spirited Zatanna embarks on an unexpected journey of freedom when she inadvertently awakens a powerful genie, and is forced to confront her own destiny as she wields newfound power, discovers unlikely companions, and struggles against dangerous forces in pursuit of her three wishes.

"You can't just make people into genies!" Dee shouted at me.
"It's not like I meant to! She just... stepped on my foot, and then she transformed."
We were sitting in the Prophet's office. He had a scowl on his face as he listened to our explanation. "If all it takes is stepping on your foot, then what makes you different from a common street magician?"
"I don't know, but she was really happy about being a genie," said Go-Go. "It was nice that there was no need for any coercion or anything."
"I'm glad you were so considerate of your wishes," Dee said with a smirk.
Go-Go elbowed her in the stomach and he glared at her. "She's supposed to be skilled at providing things, right? So I thought I'd ask for some information about the city and other related matters."
"That should be fine," said the Prophet. "The way most of these things work is that they're bound to provide anything that isn't illegal or impossible." The Prophet looked down at his notes again. "So, you brought her here after she granted your wishes?"
"Well, since we had no idea where she lived, we figured we'd bring her back here," I said. "She did mention something about not being allowed to ever leave this area, but it's not like she has much of a choice now."
"So you don't intend on keeping her for very long?" he asked us. "The sooner you can free her from the contract, the better - especially if she doesn't live far away. Otherwise, you might have to put up with this situation for quite an extended duration." He waved his hand around the room and took in our apartment building. "I have a feeling that this might not be the most preferable living conditions for someone who's been confined here for centuries."
"Do you think she lived here? In this building?" Go-Go asked him. She looked around at all of the photos and knickknacks we had hung up on our walls. All of them seemed to be more than a little dusty, as though they hadn't been touched in a long time. She walked over towards our kitchen table and picked up one of our notebooks, which had notes scribbled everywhere about what Go-Go could accomplish during any given day now that she was running errands for us both instead of one of us doing it all by ourselves individually. They were neat enough that you could tell that we liked writing in them (as evidenced by how colorful some of the notes were), but neat enough that you could tell that we didn't really want to be writing them (as evidenced by how many pages were torn out).
"Well - what do you expect? It seems like you have an abundance of free time on your hands," Dee said to me while gesturing towards our apartment as well. "I mean, just look at all this displayed collection! There are way too many pictures and items scattered about!" Her voice began escalating in volume until she was practically shouting the last sentence at me, emphasizing her point by pointing directly into my face when she said it.
"Hey!" I shouted back at her before turning back towards the Prophet. "Please don't pay attention to her rambling! We're trying earnestly! But it's challenging since we live here together! And there are only two full bathrooms here! And Go-Go only works three days out of five because Dee won't let Go-Go go outside without her!" I wanted to say something else - perhaps mention how Dee constantly inquired if I thought that we should marry or something similar - but I didn't want the Prophet thinking that it wasn't just Dee who had issues here in the apartment with Go-Go and me staying together quite often!
After both Dee and Go-Go started glaring at me, however, I decided to cease talking altogether - especially since their expressions morphed from angry glares into puzzled looks after staring at me for a few moments longer than would have typically been appropriate for someone who just completed speaking about themselves in such a self-deprecating manner!
"Do either of you notice anything peculiar with this?" The Prophet gestured towards one of the photos hanging on our wall - one taken by my father last year during his visit from France where everyone was smiling happily in front of a Christmas tree adorned with an array of holiday lights! That photo happened to be hanging next to another one taken by my mother several years ago during New Year's Eve where everyone was evidently inebriated because they were loudly slurring their words while attempting to smile as best they could despite their faces turning red as they continued drinking! After examining the surroundings further, the Prophet continued: "I mean - why would someone who has lived here for centuries have pictures displayed like these?" He walked over towards a pile of clothes sitting near our bedroom door. "And why would
