A Strange Magic Surrounds Pierre

Pierre looked down at the shirt in his hands and sighed. It was a simple white t-shirt, nothing special about it at all. Just the kind he wore everyday. He'd bought three of them over the past year, one for each season: summer, fall, and winter. Now, all of them were ripped to shreds on some hillside in Galilee.

Pierre closed his eyes and tried to remember what happened. He had been standing in a field, looking out over the sea... No! He had been standing in a field, looking out over the hills! That was it! The northern hills near Cana where Jesus was supposed to have turned water into wine!

He opened his eyes again and glared at the t-shirt. It was completely useless now; ruined like everything else. His pants were no better, ripped and shredded and stained with blood Pierre didn't recognize as his own. For some reason, human blood always looked black under the sun's light - dark red or even black would be more appropriate for the color. Everything was ruined; everything except for Pierre himself.

He stepped back from the pile of clothes and scanned around him for anything familiar. There was nothing but grass and rocks around him, with the occasional clump of low-lying bushes he couldn't identify by sight alone if he wanted to try. There wasn't even any sign of what he thought were olive trees when he first stumbled upon this place yesterday - they had probably rotted away thousands of years ago after all this time.

"Damn it," Pierre said with another sigh as he ran his hand through his hair. Any remnant left behind by those who lived here so long ago had been erased by time and nature. Even if he stayed here until death claimed him, there would be nothing left to remind him of this place once he passed on. "Where did I go?"

It wasn't too hard to pinpoint now that he had calmed down from the initial shock; Pierre looked up towards Galilee to get his bearings before heading north-east into the hills near Cana where he found a small cave that seemed perfect for hiding in while things cooled down outside. Unfortunately, he hadn't counted on meeting a demon inside who snatched him up just as soon as he made it back into the cave - that was when everything went crazy and Pierre woke up here in this field instead. If only I could remember... !

"No," Pierre said aloud as an idea suddenly dawned on him. "That's not possible." Could it? After all that had happened today, could demons really exist? They were supposed to be creatures of pure hellfire that couldn't set foot into God's Holy Land without turning into ash... But then how did I end up here? What am I doing still alive? Why do my wounds heal by themselves every time I stop paying attention?

Pierre turned away from the clothes and began walking east towards Cana instead, still trying to wrap his head around what could possibly be going on right now...
