Escape with Serge
·
Published 4/4/2023In fourth century France, a clumsy but kind-hearted Frenchman, Serge, must use his wits, newfound resilience and some unlikely allies to escape from a powerful aristocrat when his small-time heist attempt goes wrong and poses an age-old mystery to unravel.
Serge and his gang are being chased down by the Baron's guards. He runs through the forest with his torch, stumbling in the dark. The others don't seem to be behind him anymore.
"Oh no," he thinks to himself, "I'm all alone." He hears a sound coming from above. It sounds like wooden planks being kicked along the ground. But the sound is too high to be human feet. He looks up and sees a familiar face in the moonlight. "Ah! Pierre!" he shouts for joy. "What are you doing here?"
Pierre looks down at Serge and says, "I'm flying my plane." Then he vanishes into the woods.
"Wait!" Serge calls after him, but hears no response. He continues running through the woods, and notices that it's getting lighter ahead of him. The sky is turning from black to blue, and he can see the sun on the horizon. He runs out of the woods, and sees a field full of people dressed in coats and cloaks. A sign in front of them reads "The French New Wave".
Suddenly, there is a loud screeching noise, and an airplane comes crashing down out of the sky right in front of everyone's eyes. There is a fiery explosion as it hits the ground, and people begin to scream as they flee from it. As they run away, they leave half-eaten sandwiches on their blankets in fear. The engine of the plane stops crackling, and Serge walks up to it curiously. He puts his hand on one of its wings, which is still warm to touch despite the flames around it.
He turns back towards where he came from, toward Paris, but now everything has changed. The city is lined with palm trees instead of buildings now. In front of him on a hill is a fortress with two stone towers towering over everything else around it - including himself. The guards on the towers wear armor that appears to be made out of silver fish scales and helmets shaped like skulls with horns sticking out from both sides at sharp angles, giving them an intimidating appearance.
The baron who owns this castle is not as evil as people believe; he can be cruel only when his family is threatened. Most people either fear or respect him, but some even respect him enough to do anything for him. Serge might become one of those devoted individuals after tonight when he meets a dragon who lives deep underground beneath the castle. Nobody knows about the dragon except for Baron Voltaire, who discovered its existence years ago while his father still ruled the land.
Dragons are known to possess knowledge about the past—except for their own. They remember every detail of their existence from the moment they hatched, recalling events in lifetimes measured in unimaginable units of time. People never ask dragons about the past because they fear the power of these creatures. However, Baron Voltaire understands them, and if Serge takes the risk to thwarts his alliance with the dragon, he may face consequences more terrible than he could imagine.
In the meantime, Pierre is flying above the field where the plane crashed. It is unclear where he came from originally, or where he will end up if Serge ventures into his plane. Their paths have intertwined just as unpredictably as the experiences that now unfold before our hero, forcing him to confront the unknown in this new world that defies all expectation.
