Mark's New Dawn

27 years old male Mark J escaped from Poland to Great Britain, trying to start a new life. Trying to become a new person in a different country is not so easy, especially if crimes from your old life chase after you. He became a warehouse worker and forklift driver, and a few years later also did door security.

Mark's family was poor in Poland. His father died when he was 10 years old and his mother went through hard times raising Mark and his little brother alone. Her income as a nurse was not enough to give them everything they needed or wanted. When Mark reached the age of 18, he decided to help his mother by doing petty crime such as pickpocketing, selling drugs, etc.

He managed to save some money over the next two years and gave it all to his mother; she refused it at first but accepted it later after realizing that her sons were involved in illegal activities.

However, things got worse for Mark after that. He was caught dealing with drugs by the police and sentenced to one year in prison. In prison, Mark got into fights with other prisoners several times due to misunderstandings or personal conflicts; this almost doubled his sentence time.

When he finished serving his sentence, he changed himself completely. He realized how stupid his actions were and decided never to commit any crime again.

One night while working as door security at a nightclub, an unknown man approached him.

The stranger started talking about the past crimes that Mark had committed in Poland five years ago, including names of victims.

Surprised and scared at the same time, Mark asked: "Who are you?"

The man replied: "Don't worry about who I am; just know that I can ruin your current life if you don't do what I tell you."

Still confused about what was happening, Mark asked: "What do you want from me?"

The man replied: "I want you to steal a valuable painting from the museum and deliver it to my partner in two weeks. If you refuse to do so or inform the police, all your personal information will be sent to the Polish police and your current life will be over."

Mark had no choice but to accept this unexpected deal. He thought of stealing the painting as soon as possible so he could get rid of this burden. However, things didn't go as planned.

On the night he decided to steal the painting, there were security guards patrolling every corner of the museum.

He realized that he couldn't succeed alone; he needed someone who could help him with this mission.

Three days later, while searching for a solution online, Mark found an article about Alan, a professional thief who had managed to steal paintings from several museums around Europe without getting caught.

After spending hours searching for more information about Alan, Mark finally found his email address and sent him an email explaining his situation and asking for help.

Two days later, Mark received a reply from Alan agreeing to help him with stealing the painting. The reply also included detailed information about how they were going to accomplish this mission.

A week later on Saturday night at 1 am, Mark met Alan in front of the museum. They entered through a back door that was left open by one of Alan's partners who worked at the museum.

Once inside, they avoided security cameras using special devices provided by Alan's partners. After reaching the room where the painting was displayed, they discovered that there were additional security measures installed around it. It seemed impossible for them to take it without triggering an alarm.

They spent almost half an hour coming up with different plans until finally finding one that might work if everything went as planned.

Mark took off his clothes and wore gloves similar to what security guards wear; meanwhile, Alan disabled all alarms in that area temporarily.

Mark approached slowly towards the frame where the painting was placed while Alan was watching for security cameras and guards.

Once Mark managed to take the painting without triggering any alarm, they both left the room quickly. However, their happiness didn't last long.

They were ambushed by the same man who had approached Mark at the nightclub a few weeks ago; he was accompanied by two big guys.

The unknown man took the painting from Mark's hand and said: "Thank you both for your help. Now I don't need you anymore."

One of his partners knocked out Mark immediately while another partner prevented Alan from escaping.

Mark woke up in an abandoned house tied to a chair; he tried to free himself but discovered that it was impossible.

A few minutes later, the unknown man entered the room accompanied by his two partners; he said: "You must be wondering why I thanked you before knocking you out."

He continued: "The truth is, I didn't need you to steal this painting for me because I can do it myself, but if I did so, the police would have suspected me directly. On the other hand, having you as my helpers will mislead them completely."

Mark asked: "Who are you? And why are you doing all this?"

The unknown man laughed and replied: "I am an international art thief known as 'The Shadow.' I have been stealing paintings from different museums around Europe for decades without getting caught."

He continued: "However, my time is almost over; Interpol has been chasing me for months. Stealing paintings is not difficult; what's challenging is selling them without being caught or traced back to me."

"By implicating both of you in this mission, I can easily sell this painting for a fortune since no one will suspect it's mine."

Alan asked: "What about us? Are we going to spend our lives in prison?"

The Shadow replied with a smile on his face: "Don't worry; once everything is done, I will let you go. However, I would advise you both not to do anything illegal anymore because next time we meet, it won't end happily for you."

After finishing his talk, The Shadow left the room with the painting and never showed up again.

Alan managed to free Mark later, and they both left the abandoned house.

Mark realized that he couldn't hide from his past or run away from consequences; he decided to go back to Poland and deliver himself to the police.

His mother was devastated when she heard about what happened to her son; she hired a lawyer to defend him in court.

During his trial, Mark told the judge everything about The Shadow's involvement in this crime and promised never to commit any crime again if given a second chance.

The judge took into consideration Mark's young age at the time of committing those crimes as well as The Shadow's involvement in this situation. Mark was sentenced to one year of imprisonment but released after serving six months.

Since then, Mark has been living an honest life with a good job. He got married two years ago and now has a beautiful daughter named Emily.

Mark learned from his past mistakes; he knew that doing something wrong might seem like an easy way out but it always comes with consequences that can ruin lives forever.

He also learned that running away from problems or hiding your past doesn't solve anything; however difficult it may be, facing your fears and taking responsibility for your actions is the only way to move forward and live a better life.
