Published 12/4/2023Batman stood on the DJ booth, his cape billowing behind him as he surveyed the crowd. The music thumped through the speakers, vibrating in his chest. He adjusted the knobs and faders, expertly blending one track into another. The club-goers danced and cheered, their faces painted with garish colors.
The Joker leaned against a wall nearby, watching Batman with a smirk. He took a swig from his flask and then held it out to Batman.
"Drink?" he asked.
Batman ignored him, focusing on his mixing. He tapped his foot to the beat and nodded approvingly as he made small adjustments to the sound levels.
The Joker sighed dramatically and took another drink. "You know, Batsy, you could at least pretend to have fun."
"I am having fun," Batman replied curtly.
The Joker rolled his eyes and pushed himself off the wall. He swaggered over to Batman and leaned against the DJ booth.
"You know what your problem is?" he said. "You take everything so seriously."
Batman ignored him again, his attention fully on the music. The bass dropped, and the crowd went wild. Batman pumped his fist in the air, a rare smile crossing his face.
The Joker watched him with a bemused expression. "Well, well," he said. "Looks like someone's finally loosening up."
Batman didn't respond; he was too busy working the decks, lost in the music.
The Joker huffed in annoyance and took another swig from his flask. He sidled up next to Batman on the DJ booth and nudged him with an elbow.
"So," he said casually. "You ever thought about joining my side?"
Batman glanced at him out of the corner of his eye but didn't say anything.
The Joker grinned mischievously. "Come on, Batsy," he coaxed. "Think of all the fun we could have. No more brooding in the shadows, no more saving Gotham. Just you and me, causing chaos and mayhem."
Batman sighed and shook his head. "That's not who I am," he said.
The Joker shrugged. "Suit yourself," he said with a shrug. "But let me tell you something, Batsy: life's too short to be a buzzkill all the time."
Batman didn't respond; he was too busy mixing two tracks together, lost in the music.
The Joker watched him for a moment, his smirk fading slightly. He took another drink from his flask and then set it down on the DJ booth.
"Alright, Batsy," he said finally. "I get it. You're too serious for your own good."
He turned to leave but paused at the edge of the booth. He looked back at Batman, who was still focused on his mixing.
"Maybe next time," he said with a sigh.
Then he disappeared into the crowd, leaving Batman alone on the DJ booth.
