Duel for Yola: Love, Turmoil and Ideologies in 15th Century America

Yola Berrocal lived in the small, seemingly sleepy Carrefour of Collado Villalba in 15th century America. Little did she know that her presence stirred something within the minds of three young men, namely Jose Luis, Ivan Castellanos and Xavier Simon. While each of these boys had their own individual reasons for wanting to gain her love and attention, the result was the same -- a rivalry of lewd and competitive acts that rivaled that of any other city’s.

The rivalry between the boys climaxed when Yola was dragged into their struggle for supremacy, for each claimed that she ought to belong to him alone. In a desperate attempt to make Yola endear to them, Jose Luis, Ivan and Xavier pushed their luck one game too far, and their slapdash attempts to win Yola's heart resulted in the boys engaging in repeated acts of violence. Just as the boys' brawl seemed too large to take on, Yola arrived on the battlefield, determined to quelch the drama and violence between the three boys in spite of their unwarranted hatred towards one another.

Yola pleaded and pleaded with the boys, asking them to put a halt to the skirmish in exchange of her love and attention. When it was clear that the boys would not give up, Yola reluctantly accepted her fate and preemptively appointed one of the boys as the winner of her heart. However, since no one was exempt from the escalating violence among all three of them, Yola implored the boys to accept her decision for the time being before things got out of hand. Xavier, Ivan, and Jose Luis reluctantly followed Yola’s request, yet this truce halted their need to prove themselves to her no more than a few moments.

The boys soon found themselves in a situation so chaotic, intense and violent that it seemed there was no escape and no way of stopping it without taking drastic measures. As the violence between them grew out of proportions, Yola threw herself in between the three boys. Using her body as a shield, she successfully tamed the fire that rose between them and asserted her dominance and confidence. In that moment of clarity, Yola declared the winner of her love to be Xavier Simon and compelled Ivan and Jose Luis to step back.

It seemed like she was their salvation and the boys ultimately heeded her call, giving up all hope of winning Yola's attention as they left the Carrefour with downcast eyes. In a few days, news of Xavier's reckless hijinks hit the streets and the Carrefour’s inhabitants appointed Yola as the unwitting yet protective figure of their society. Little did the townsfolk know that the intense love-death rivalry between Jose Luis, Ivan and Xavier would be the start of a beautiful but violent friendship between Yola, Xavier and the boys. With Yola’s guidance, peace would be restored in the eyes of the Carrefour, however, this did not mean that the stories of love, risk, and death would come to an end…
