Sholen looked over the bow of the ship, peering into the dark waters as his friends slept below deck. He couldn't sleep. The sun was on its way up and he was more than ready to see it. Sholen had been born with a rare genetic disorder; rather than being able to see in daylight, he only could see in darkness. It was an odd condition that he had lived with for most of his life, but this trip had helped him learn how to adapt. Now he could read in the dark, hunt for food in the dark, even get around in the dark without running into things. But seeing sunlight once again was on the top of his list.

He wasn't quite sure when they had stopped rowing. They must have been at sea for months now, so long that he couldn't even remember what it was like back home anymore. The salty sea air filled his nostrils as he imagined himself back home with friends and family, his mother preparing breakfast as she always did, father out fishing from the docks early in the morning...

A loud splash broke through his daydreams - Leviathan! Leviathian! The beast emerged from the water just beyond where Sholen stood looking out at the ocean. Leviathan glared at Sholen before diving back under and swimming towards Mykira's bunk below deck.

Sholen jumped into action then, prying open the door to Mykira's cabin so quickly that it flew off its hinges and onto the deck of their small fishing boat. The sun was rising now - it had to be dawn already - and there would be no time to lose if they wanted to capture Leviathan before sunset again.

"Mykira! Mykira!" Sholen screamed while jumping through her bed curtains, searching around for some kind of trap or contraption that she may have set up against Leviathan's imminent escape. "Wake up! We found him!"

Mykira sat upright in her bed and wiped the sleep from her eyes. She smiled when she saw Sholen there in front of her, smiling back at her with excitement evident on his face: "Mykira... I think this is it! This is our chance! Please tell me you have something for him."

She looked confused for a moment but then suddenly remembered: "Oh yes! I do. Wait here." She hopped out of bed and searched around on a table next to it before pulling down a thick rope from above her head that was connected to one end of a net which she grabbed onto by another end that was tied above her bunk somewhere unseen.

Leviathan wiggled himself free from Mykira's net when suddenly - SPLASH - both Mykira and Sholen jumped right on top of him and secured him tightly inside with ropes wrapped around all four limbs and tied together behind his back. He struggled against them but eventually gave up after realizing that he was caught; after all, where could he go?

The trio hoisted their prize up onto their small fishing boat where they tied him to an anchor bolted into the floorboards so they could take him home and show him off to everyone else from their village who were skeptical about whether or not Leviathan actually existed.
