Forgiven Journey: In 16th Century India

The sun was burning my shoulders. A slight breeze passed by me, but I couldn't feel it.

The whole day yesterday and all night long I thought about this. Where could she be? What could she be doing? Who is she going out with?

I tried to call her so many times, but it was just her voice mail. Emily was always the one calling me.

It was clear now. She wasn't into me anymore. Or maybe she never was into me.

How could I be so stupid?

I tried to fight back the tears, but I couldn't hold them back any longer. Tears started falling down from my eyes, and soon my whole face was wet. My clothes were soaked, but I didn't care anymore.

I looked around me, hoping no one would see me crying there at the park bench, just a few blocks away from where we went on our first date together.

But who would have seen me anyway? It's Sunday morning, and everyone seemed to be still in their houses or offices or whatever they do on Sundays. The streets were completely empty, except for a few green trees standing around me in this beautiful park that Emily brought me to when we first met.

My phone rang again. I took it out of my pocket and saw Marty's name on the screen: "Emily wants to meet up." Then he texted me the address of a nice looking cafe close by.

The fact that she wanted to meet up with Marty made everything even worse for me, because it meant that whatever happened between her and Marty yesterday had something to do with why she dumped me today.

I stood up from the bench and walked through the park towards the cafe where Emily told Marty to meet her for breakfast together with him and his girlfriend Jenny (who had been my best friend since college).

I arrived there after 15 minutes of walking through a crowd of people running around trying to get everything done before they left for work or school in the middle of Sunday morning rush hour in New York City.

When I entered the cafe and looked around, I noticed right away that Marty was there already waiting for us at one of the tables next to the window with a cup of coffee in his hands while he looked outside through those small round windows at pedestrians passing by on their way somewhere else. He smiled at me when he noticed that I came in too, but he didn't say anything because Jenny was sitting right next to him and she was still talking into her cellphone while looking anxious as if she didn't want anyone interrupting her conversation with whoever she was talking with on the other end of that phone call anymore than I wanted someone interrupting mine with Emily earlier this morning before leaving for work.

"Good morning!" I said as politely as possible and sat down across from Marty at an empty table nearby without saying another word again.

He nodded back at me without smiling this time because he knew how much pain I must have been in right now after finding out about what happened yesterday between him and Emily behind my back like that, but then he started talking about some random stuff about work and things with his girlfriend Jenny who also started talking to him again after she finished her important call last night which had something to do with something important happening at work today apparently.

I didn't pay attention to what they were saying though because all I could think about was Emily who still hadn't arrived yet, though Marty had told me over text messages that she wanted us to meet here today like 20 minutes ago already which should've been more than enough time for her to get here from wherever she lives around here.
