Up the Mountain to Reversia
·
Published 4/5/2023Brave and resourceful Kyle and Lulu take an enthralling journey to the upside-down town of Reversia, only to find unexpected challenge in the form of a pack of mischievous tricksters and their unpredictable leader, testing their wit and courage as they work their way back home.
"I'm telling you, it's not a mirage. It's actually there."
"Kyle, I'm sure you're imagining it. There's nothing but sand here, how would there be a city?"
"I don't know, but we need to find out. We can't just let this opportunity slip away from us." Kyle took Lulu's hand and led her through the dune towards this oddity. He felt something off about it; something that couldn't be explained by science or reason. As they made their way through the sand dunes, he heard a strange noise that he couldn't quite place.
"What is that sound? It almost sounds like..." she asked as she looked around her for the source of the noise.
"It sounds like children laughing," Kyle said as his eyes widened in amazement. He quickly found the source of the laughter; at the edge of some shrubbery was a group of children playing with a ball. They were running around, each chasing after the ball while laughing and hollering at one another. One child threw the ball too high up into the air and missed catching it, but it didn't fall back down to earth as it should have. Instead, it kept rising higher and higher until it disappeared over the horizon. The children stopped what they were doing and looked up at it, wondering where it went. Then suddenly, another child jumped up into the air and caught it before landing on her feet without injury. The other children cheered and clapped for her before resuming their game once more. Kyle looked at Lulu with shock plastered on his face as he stared at a group of people that shouldn't exist.
"This... this is impossible..." he said in disbelief.
"How are they doing that?" Lulu asked him as she watched them play "They're... flying?!"
"No," Kyle replied, "they're walking on air." He walked towards them slowly and Lulu followed closely behind him, watching them play with amazement etched on her face as well. They approached them quietly, observing their motions as they played their game with ease; totally unaware of their presence. A child suddenly kicked the ball towards where Lulu stood without noticing her presence. She tried to jump out of its path but she wasn't fast enough; the ball hit her square in the gut and knocked her onto her hands and knees in an instant. Kyle rushed over to help her get back up before any harm could befall her from these tricksters' mischievousness or idiocy (as he had come to learn from experience that mischief most often resulted from idiocy). After helping Lulu get back on her feet again, he turned to look at them with confusion written all over his face; however, he saw nothing strange about them anymore since they weren't playing games anymore - instead they were walking around aimlessly with blank looks on their faces; unsure of what to do next since they had nothing left to play with now that they didn't have their ball anymore. Kyle decided to speak up first because he wanted answers to his questions so badly now:
"Are you real?" he asked aloud as everyone stopped moving completely and stared at him curiously while also retaining their confused looks on their faces as well. "Uhh... Can you talk? I mean... can you understand me?" he added as an afterthought since he wanted to make sure if his ability to understand English hadn't left him when he woke up in this strange place earlier today so long ago (or was it yesterday?). The children continued staring at him innocently before one of them stepped forward and spoke:
"Of course we can understand you! We're very smart!" she boasted proudly while folding her arms across her chest like she was trying to prove herself right by being able to talk back to him so easily after all this time spent waiting for someone else to show up here besides themselves ever since they arrived here three years ago; only two years old at the time, but apparently that was old enough for them to speak English back then (thanks to some genetic mutation). Another child stepped forward next:
"Who are you? We've never seen anyone else here before!" she exclaimed with excitement in her voice as she ran forward towards Kyle excitedly; however, due to some behavioral condition (most likely caused by years of isolation), she ended up tripping over herself and crashing into him head-first before falling onto ground afterwards due to gravity hitting her so hard after years without experiencing its effects (which explains why no one ever fell before). Everyone else started laughing hysterically except for Kyle who just sighed in annoyance as someone would do when dealing with uncooperative kids who don't listen no matter how many times you try teaching them (and oh boy did Kyle know all about that)!
