The Courage of Seth: A Magical Journey in Africa
·
Published 2/16/2023In the depths of a sub-Saharan jungle, Seth, an inexperienced level 1 warrior, must confront his fears and battle an unstoppable, mysterious Level 85 scorpion to save his virtual village - before the stakes become real.
Screams filled the air as I looked up in terror.
I was scared and confused, more so than anything because I had no idea what was going on.
I slowly got to my feet and looked around at my surroundings.
The grass was green and the sky a beautiful shade of blue.
It almost seemed like a normal day, but it wasn't.
I turned around to see the woman who had been sitting next to me.
She was on the ground with her eyes closed and I watched as blood began to leak from her head onto the green grass below her.
Her body was limp and lifeless, causing me to gasp in horror.
I turned around again to see where I was, only to be faced by an enormous scorpion that stood on two large legs with its tail raised high in the air.
The creature let out a loud roar that sounded like thunder before charging towards me with incredible speed. The sound of hundreds of tiny feet running through grass could be heard as multiple scorpions charged towards me from different directions; they moved very fast, much faster than any human I've ever seen move before.
I began to run as fast as possible away from the creatures chasing me, but it didn't seem like I was getting anywhere quickly enough. I jumped over logs and ducked under bushes while still being chased by the scorpions that were gaining on me quickly. My heart raced faster than I've ever felt it race before, and when I felt like it would beat out of my chest at any moment I finally stopped running and turned around to face my pursuers.
I unsheathed my longsword from its sheath on my back and held it out in front of me defensively while trying not to shake too much from fear or exertion. My hand soon began to feel numb from holding onto the sword for so long, but I didn't dare lower it from its defensive stance just yet despite how tired my hand felt after holding it out for so long. All of a sudden two scorpions jumped into the air towards me, taking me by surprise and causing me to jump backwards quickly while raising my sword once more defensively towards them.
"What are you doing?!"
A voice yelled at me suddenly, startling me enough that I dropped my sword and fell backwards onto the grassy floor below me; there was no one else in sight besides myself, so who had spoken?
"You don't have time for this! Your life is in danger!" The voice spoke again sternly as if someone who had knowledge about what was going on but wished that they didn't know as much as they did.
I looked up at the sky above me with tears in my eyes, "Help me..." I said softly before seeing something appear in front of my face; it looked like a small black rectangle that glowed brightly for just a moment before disappearing entirely into thin air again with nothing left behind where it once had been floating in front of my face; what exactly just happened?
"Listen," The voice said sternly once again, "you're not going to last long against those creatures if you don't do something about your pathetic level." The voice sounded frustrated as if he were upset about something and wanted someone else to take care of whatever situation he was upset about instead of him having to deal with it himself; why did he think that way? Who would want this kind of situation dealt with if they didn't have to deal with it themselves?
My level? What does level have anything to do with fighting these things? Then again...I haven't been doing too great against them so far...
"How do you know how many levels away from each other we are?" I asked quietly after a moment's silence between us; I hadn't forgotten where I was or what creatures were chasing after me...but this voice...wasn't real...right? How could anyone possibly be here with me? Where did the phone go when it disappeared into thin air? How am I even talking aloud without opening my mouth or making any sound at all for that matter? Could this thing somehow read minds or something...?
"Get up! You're wasting precious time!" The voice yelled at me angrily before deciding not to answer any more questions; instead he grabbed onto both of my arms tightly before pulling them upwards forcefully until I was standing upright again after having fallen over due to surprise upon hearing his voice speak directly into my mind beside mine rather than aloud beside mine like all normal people usually do when talking aloud rather than telepathically; either way though I didn't have time to dwell on how strange this situation was because the scorpions decided to attack at that very moment once more since they apparently couldn't take a hint when their master told them not to bother chasing after prey that couldn't fight back properly yet against them anyway because their prey's level was too low for them not to give chase against their prey once more just because their prey chose not to fight back properly yet against them anyway because their prey's level was too low for them not give chase against their prey once more just because their prey chose not fight back properly yet against them anyway because their prey's level was too low for them not give chase against their prey once more just because their prey chose not fight back properly yet against them anyway because....well you get the point right? Either way though there wasn't a lot of time between attacks, giving little time for thinking about everything going wrong right now especially when trying not get eaten yourself along with your thoughts by giant terrifying creatures known as giant terrifying scorpions that seem intent on killing you regardless if you choose to fight back or not; either way though you need some way if defeating those things lest you wish never see tomorrow morning...and wherever "tomorrow morning" might turn out being if you can manage avoiding becoming dinner for these creatures during tonight....and whether or not your dinner wants dinner doesn't decide *you* are dinner rather than vice versa....(^_~)*).
So anyways...what should I do about these things chasing after me? They keep attacking no matter what weapon i wield nor how much health i try spending away from these attacks from these beasts rather than wasting away trying desperately defending myself constantly against these things who seemed intent on killing me regardless if i choose defend myself or not...so then maybe fighting back wouldn't be such a bad idea right now since even trying desperately defending myself constantly against these things who seemed intent on killing me regardless if i choose defend myself or not apparently wasn't working too well yet otherwise they wouldn't keep attacking so relentlessly like they do while chasing after prey that couldn't fight back properly yet against them anyway....so then maybe fighting back wouldn't be such a bad idea right now since even trying desperately defending myself constantly against these things who seemed intent on killing me regardless if i choose defend myself or not apparently wasn't working too well yet otherwise they wouldn't keep attacking so relentlessly like they do while chasing after prey that couldn't fight back properly yet against them anyway....so then maybe fighting back wouldn't be such a bad idea right now since even trying desperately defending myself constantly against these things who seemed intent on killing me regardless if i choose defend myself or not apparently wasn't working too well yet otherwise they wouldn't keep attacking so relentlessly like they do while chasing after prey that couldn't fight back properly yet against them anyway....so then maybe fighting back wouldn't be such a bad idea right now since even trying desperately defending myself constantly against these things who seemed intent on killing me regardless if i choose defend myself or not apparently wasn't working too well yet otherwise they wouldn't keep attacking so relentlessly like they do while chasing after prey that couldn't fight back properly yet against them anyway....so then maybe fighting back wouldn't be such a bad idea right now since even trying desperately defending myself constantly against these things who seemed intent on killing me regardless if i choose defend myself or not apparently wasn't working too well yet otherwise they wouldn't keep attacking so relentlessly like they do while chasing after prey that couldn't fight back properly yet against them anyway....so then maybe fighting back wouldn't be such a bad idea right now since even trying desperately defending myself constantly against these things who seemed intent on killing me regardless if i choose defend myself or not apparently wasn't working too well yet otherwise they wouldn't keep attacking so relentlessly like they do while chasing after prey that couldn'.t fight back properly yet against them anyway....so then maybe fighting back wouldn' t be such a bad idea right now since even trying desperately defending myself constantly against these things who seemed intent on killing me regardless if i choose defend myself or not apparently wasn' t working too well yet otherwise they wo uldn' t keep attacking so relentlessly like th ey d o w hile chas ing afte r pr ey tha t cou ldn' t figh t properl y y et aga ins t th em e ven u nles s th ey decid ed tha t p rey sho uld die n e ve r y da y afte r al l ra t h er tha n w atc hing pr ey st ill live eve ry day lik e th em selv es.. b ut m aybe sp endin g ev er yo ne o f yo ur da ys la te r wondering whether o r n ot yo
