Lyapha's Forbidden Voyage
·
Published 2/21/2023Brave young adventurer Lyapha embarks on a daring mission to cross the treacherous Mediterranean Sea which has forbidden any use of magic, encountering a vibrant cast of characters while seeking to make it past the King's determined barriers and discover if the risky journey was worth the reward.
Lyapha stood at the bow, bracing herself against the rolling and crashing of the waves. The sound of the wind in her ears was so loud that she could barely hear what Mabel was saying. She was yelling something about their supplies and directions and something else, but Lyapha couldn’t hear it. She looked around the boat and watched other people push boxes, crates, and barrels of food, water, and other important supplies towards the middle of the vessel.
“I’LL HELP!” Lyapha yelled over the wind. “CAN I HELP?”
Mabel ran over to her with a look of panic on her face. “I NEED YOU TO KEEP AN EYE ON THOSE TWO!” Mabel pointed her finger to two young boys who were picking up those crates one by one and throwing them overboard into the ocean. They seemed to be having a great time until Mabel ran over to them with a terrifying look in her eyes. The boys immediately dropped their boxes and ran away from her as she tried to get their attention.
This was it. Everyone on board had been planning for this journey for days now. Lyapha had been helping everyone load up their supplies onto the ship. She had helped carry heavy barrels of water through the town streets, hoisting them up onto people's backs so they could carry them to the dockside where she would help load them onto this very ship right now. This trip was a dangerous undertaking, but there were many more families like hers who needed help getting across the sea. So many people had been leaving their homes behind because of war or famine or just because they wanted a better life somewhere else in another country where they could practice magic freely without fear of persecution or death.
Lyapha spent most of her childhood traveling with her family from city to city, looking for a place where they could finally settle down and live without fear of being killed by angry mobs or persecuted by kings who feared magic users above all else. She had no idea how hard it would be when she started out on this journey with her mother and father years ago; but she knew that she couldn't stop now no matter how frightened she was. She was growing stronger every day here on their boat waiting for nightfall so they could set sail for their new homeland across the sea where magic is free and encouraged instead of forbidden and punished by torture or murder by angry mobs or cruel kings. It would be worth it if there were some place left in this world where magic is allowed instead of being shunned or condemned as evil or unholy. The world was changing for the better; but only for those who had enough money to pay to live a comfortable life without fear of persecution over something as simple as using spells or potions to make life easier; while so many others are still struggling despite all the progress that has been made in recent decades after centuries of oppression against magical people throughout history by greedy kings and cruel religious leaders who feared all things magical because they didn't understand it at all since they were too stupid not even willing to learn about it!
It wasn't fair that some people were given access to fantastic powers while others were forced to live ordinary lives doing nothing special at all! Lyapha thought that if some people were given these wonderful abilities than EVERYONE should have access to them if they wanted them! Not everyone wants special abilities; but everyone can use tools created with magic, so why not allow everyone an equal opportunity to pursue whatever knowledge they wish? Why should those who want special abilities be held back from gaining knowledge if someone who doesn't want any special abilities is able to? That didn't seem fair at all! Everyone should be given equal opportunity regardless of what sort of powers they might have or grasp for in life! It didn't seem fair that anyone should have access to incredible gifts if others are not allowed such opportunities simply because some people are born lucky while others are born unlucky...
Lyapha shook off these thoughts in frustration as she looked out towards the horizon where land disappeared into a mass of misty clouds far out into the distance beyond sight. It would take hours before they reached land again on their own little boat; but when they did reach land again the first thing Lyapha wanted was freedom... freedom from persecution, freedom from hiding laws about magic from ignorant mobs, freedom from unfair rules about practicing magic freely without worrying about being attacked by mobs or condemned by kings or thrown into dungeons or tortured for using something that should *not* be considered evil at all! No one should ever be afraid using basic skills learned during childhood like curing scrapes or bruises with simple healing spells used by mothers everywhere throughout history! That shouldn't be considered evil at all... children learned such skills not knowing anything about politics or religion when protecting themselves against bullies who picked on them during playtime; no child willingly chooses evil when learning how use basic skills learned during childhood to protect themselves against bullying during playtime! Those bullying children learned evil tactics like hurting others that way; not children learning basic skills using basic healing spells learned playing house with mother in early childhood...
Lyapha looked out towards shore again where she saw something white cutting through blue sky towards them surrounded by dark clouds filled with rain which seemed like a warning from angry gods toward those foolish enough attempting crossing open ocean on flimsy ships like theirs... she held onto one last hope though, hoping that maybe this journey would turn out alright after all despite what certain gods seemed determined telling them otherwise starting raining down upon them...
