Jessica's Giant Ambition

It was just a regular day at the market. Well, as normal as things get in the village. I had been wandering around the stalls, looking for a nice piece of meat to throw on the fire when I bumped into Quinn.

"Hello handsome! How have you been?" she asked me.

"Ah, hi Quinn." She had always been so kind to me, and even though we hardly ever saw each other, she often took my breath away with her beautiful smile and her gorgeous eyes. "I'm doing ok, what about you?"

"Oh you know, same old thing. Just trying to keep my family alive." We both laughed at that. Even though we were young adults now, it still felt wrong to call each other by our first names.

"Listen," she said then, lowering her voice a little bit and glancing around to make sure nobody heard us "I found out some interesting news today."

"Oh yeah? Tell me more!" I replied excitedly. Ever since we were children Quinn had always wanted to be a spy or something like that, so whenever she made up an exciting story it usually turned out quite entertaining.

She lowered her voice even further now "well...I heard that they are in fact growing potatoes again at the other side of town. It's all hush hush right now because apparently they don't want people to know yet but you know how quickly news travels around here, so I figured I should tell you right away."

"You're amazing," I told her jokingly before frowning and asking "but why would they be growing potatoes? Surely not for food? We haven't had any vegetables in years!"

"No no," Quinn insisted "it's not for food exactly." She glanced around again before lowering her voice even more and whispering "they are growing them for...other things!" She looked at me expectantly with wide eyes that seemed to say 'isn't that scary?' but honestly I didn't really understand what she meant by that.
