Published 3/28/2023An anomaly amongst an alternate timeline, a reincarnated individual is thrust into a world gripped in conflict and must uncover the mysterious magical powers they possess in order to restore peace and discover the secrets of their past.
"My name is Yannick. I was born in a small town called Cattle Creek, Nebraska. I don't remember much about my childhood, but my father used to take me hunting every year when I was young. We would spend hours looking for the perfect deer before we would ever shoot one. He always said, "shoot for the eyes, boy. If you miss, you might as well have not shot at all."
I took his advice to heart. Unfortunately, I didn't always live by it. I was twenty years old when I joined the military. My father had been proud of that decision; he told me he always knew I had a good head on my shoulders. Almost immediately after joining, I found myself fighting in the war in Afghanistan. It wasn't long until I came across a man who looked very similar to me, but with a longer beard and darker skin. He was carrying an AK-47 and yelling something at me in another language. Before I could even think of shooting him, he opened fire on me with his gun and hit me right in the chest. The next thing I remember is waking up in the desert with a soldier dressed in black armor standing over me with a rifle pointed at my head.
I told him to go ahead and shoot, because if they hadn't killed me yet, they probably weren't going to kill me now. He didn't shoot me though; instead he just looked confused and asked if someone had just stolen my clothes while I was passed out. That's when it hit me: he thought I was one of them! He thought that the Taliban had drugged him up and dressed him like one of their own fighters! This realization started a chain reaction of events that would eventually change the world forever...
After giving me some food and water from his backpack, this strange soldier asked for my name; however, when I told him, he replied with confusion again: "YAN-ick?" He then proceeded to ask if someone had stolen that from me as well! After this series of questions was finished, he finally introduced himself as Richard and asked if there were any more people like us around here. My mind reeled as I realized what he meant by "people like us". He actually believed that we were both dressed like the Taliban! As soon as this realization hit me, it seemed like everything started moving in slow motion. Richard tried to get up off the ground to find other people "like us", but then suddenly collapsed as if someone pulled an invisible thread connected to his feet and dragged him backwards ten feet or so before letting go of it. As soon as this happened, my body began to move involuntarily. It felt like I had no control over my arms or legs anymore; they were just moving on their own accord! When I reached Richard's body (or what used to be Richard's body), nothing seemed different about his appearance except for one thing: his face was completely disfigured! The left side of his face looked normal enough; however, there was a large scar running down from his ear to his chin on the right side of his face that looked like it had been cut open with a knife rather than naturally occurring through aging processes! All of these things happened within only a few moments; however, once they were over with and my consciousness returned back into my body, I sat there wondering where Richard was gone and why there was blood all over my hands and uniform?
I began frantically looking around for any sign of Richard when suddenly someone else appeared from behind a nearby rock! This other person looked slightly younger than myself with messy blonde hair peaking out from underneath her hat and wearing sunglasses despite being night time already! In her hand she held an assault rifle that looked eerily similar to the one Richard carried earlier! She pointed it directly at my head and yelled at me in another language before asking whose side i was on? She said something about being part of the Resistance before putting away her gun (how she knew it wasn't loaded considering how quickly she pointed it at my head remains a mystery). After putting away her gun she introduced herself as Mia while also saying she knew who i was... It turns out she thought i was one of them too! Like Richard before her, Mia acted confused by how i got here so she decided to help me find Colonel Yeoh so she could interrogate me further...
Along our journey back towards camp, Mia explained why they were here fighting against these people calling themselves "The New Order" (her term). She explained how this group went around taking over entire countries without firing a single bullet or dropping any bombs! They installed governments sympathetic towards their cause into power all throughout Europe and Asia; however, for some reason they haven't tried anything yet in America... She also said that most countries are fighting back against The New Order with little success due to them having overwhelming numbers; however, America is still free from their influence due to our strong military presence... At first i didn't understand why they were avoiding America until Mia explained something else about The New Order: They're not actually human... She claimed that most people didn't realize this because most people who see them don't live long enough afterwards to tell anyone else about it... Apparently The New Order has been around for centuries slowly taking over different parts of the world using politicians loyal to them as proxies while presumably continuing their biological experiments on humanity at the same time... She explained how most members of The New Order look normal enough physically except for their eyes which appear as if they glow red while using their powers (more on those later); however, others look almost exactly like normal humans except for one odd feature... Their skin is either pale white or deep black depending on what kind of experiment they underwent last (the way their skin color changes seems to vary depending on location... Sometimes they can switch between these two colors whenever they please). After explaining all this madness to me during our journey back towards Colonel Yeoh's camp (she also apologized for pointing her gun at me earlier), we walked together through the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan until we arrived at Colonel Yeoh's camp deep underground inside an ancient tomb built thousands of years ago by some unknown civilization long since extinct! Once we arrived into the main room where Yeoh kept operations set up underneath his base camp underground (it looked similar to something you'd see in James Bond movies except for being completely empty except for Colonel Yeoh sitting behind his desk), Mia began giving him orders regarding what happened earlier (apparently her job is considered second-in-command after Colonel Yeoh) while i merely stood there awkwardly waiting silently...
