Sonia's Subversive Strategy

The dull roar of my alarm clock sounded like the starting gun for a race. I started my day without any further hesitation. My routine was simple: shower, brush teeth, get dressed, make breakfast, but as I prepared myself for school, I was distracted by the roaring sound of the cheers echoing through my house.

"Go! Go! Go! Sonia!" yelled two voices from the living room.

I wore my school uniform and stared at myself in front of the mirror. I looked into my eyes and asked myself: "Are you ready?"

"Yes," I said to myself.

For the first time in a week, I opened my door and made my way towards the kitchen. As soon as I walked in, I saw one of my sisters cheering with her friends. They were sitting on the countertop, eating apples. A few were watching TV, and others were reading manga books as if nothing had changed since last week.

All their eyes widened when they saw me enter through the door. It was like they saw an alien or something mysterious. One of them said "Oh God," then dropped her apple to the floor and ran out of the kitchen without saying anything else. My other sister was so surprised that she couldn't move a muscle; she just kept staring at me with her mouth wide open. She didn't even close it when she left after dropping her book to the floor. The three remaining girls stared at me like I was a monster about to eat them all alive then ran out after the previous two. It happened so quickly that it took me a while to process what had just occurred before me eyes; when I finally realized what had occurred, I smiled and mumbled "That's right." Then continued making my breakfast without another word being spoken among them all morning long.
