 In a near-future Brazil, Dr. Joana Cavalcanti is an experienced veterinarian, who is known in her local neighborhood for secretly castrating the neighborhood boys. Joana works mostly with clients who trust her with their farm animals. In a dangerous, obscure corner of her home town, she is secretly conducting her own experiments, by using her surgical knowledge and case studies to sterilize the boys. Despite their anguish, she is driven by her own brilliant understanding of the power of positive population control without the use of pharmaceuticals and hormones, convinced that her procedure will be beneficial to her home town and the world. Meanwhile, some of the boys are so filled with angst-ridden self-doubt that they cannot comprehend Joana's true motives, and instead believe she is simply performing evil, cruel experiments in an effort to gain power. A struggle for justice and self-determination as the boys wonder whether Joana is their savior or the very source of their suffering.

 In a near-future Brazil, highly respected veterinarian, Dr. Joana Cavalcanti, crosses a dangerous ethical line as she secretly castsrates the neighborhood boys, leaving them filled with self-doubt and angst even as she proclaims a greater cause: to achieve population control for the good of the world.


Act 1 –The End of the Beginning: A salty breeze blows through the Brazilian seaside city of Sao Paolo, carrying in the smell of exotic spices and fuels a sense of anticipation among the local citizens. Little do they know that their small corner of the world is in the throes of a very strange challenge—Dr. Joana Cavalcanti, the experienced veterinarian, is in the midst of a secret experiment. Unbeknownst to the population, she is performing castrations on the boys in the neighborhood, using her surgical experience and her knowledge of the power of positive population control. The boys’ parents are naturally in the dark, and fear nothing but the utmost violation has been brought upon their own sons.

Act 2 – Midpoint: In one particular house, a teenage boy named Guy begins to suspect Joana’s intentions. Adamant not to accept her will, he finds himself ensnared in a fragile web of secrets and lies as he does his best to unravel the truth. It is when a close friend of his suffers a surgery seemingly related to these mysterious castrations that his worst fears are (falsely) confirmed. Angry and betrayed, Guy has to fight his own angsts and insecurities both internally and externally as he reluctantly decides to take a stand against his beloved doctor. Will he be able to do in time before more damage is inflicted on the unwilling participants of Joana’s experiment?

Act 3 – Crisis: With tough moral lessons, tough decisions and firm walls blocking his way, Guy lurches further and further away from the ethical barrier splitting good and bad. His inner turmoil culminates in a stand-off as his crisis reaches its apex. At the same impossible moment, Joana realizes the danger of the knowledge she’s amassed but continues to protect her experiment at all costs.

Act 4 – Climax: Caught between the exploding emotions of his adolescent self and the warranted pushback from those in authority, Guy attempts a desperate escape, desperately trying to evade Joana’s reach or a stint in prison. He embarks on a nail-biting pursuit through the city’s alleys and backstreets, navigating fear and doubt as Joana’s experiment continues to loom. In the end, a solution—if any—remains unclear. Both Dr. Joana and Guy are pushed to the edges of their wits in one final suspensful showdown.
