“I have a question” I said. “Is it bad that I said the other night was my favorite night ever?”

“I don’t know. Why, did you say it to upset me?” Melusina asked as she put on her makeup.

“No, I just don’t want you to think I didn’t mean what I said.”

She looked at me in the mirror and smiled. “Why would I think that? If anything, it makes me happy to hear you say that.” She reached for my hand and pulled me into the bathroom with her so we could get ready together. “I can’t wait till tonight when we are alone again.” She had a huge smile on her face. “So when do you want to move out of your mother's house?”

I hadn't realized how fast she was moving things along, but I wasn't going to complain about it either. “That's not something we need to decide right now, is it? You know my mother needs the help. Plus, we will have more privacy in your house than mine. And besides, why do we need to move out so soon? We are only dating a couple of months now and it's Labor Day weekend so we will be home all weekend together too. Shouldn't we enjoy being at our houses while they are still free? They'll be gone soon enough once your parents find out about us.”

Melusina sighed and nodded reluctantly as she started applying mascara to her eyelashes. “You're right, Michael. It's just that I'm so excited about us living together and starting our life together; it seems like such a long time until the end of the summer when college starts back up again."

I smiled as I remembered our first date at the park and how nervous I had been that night, but then how wonderful everything had turned out to be after that night ended with a kiss under the stars by the lake at her house. "Yeah, but look at all the fun stuff we get to do this weekend! Your birthday party tomorrow evening at your house, a smores party with your best friends Friday night and seeing some band play Saturday night in town."

"Oh yeah! Who is playing?" Melusina asked as she brushed her hair then looked over at me for approval before leaving for her party. "And how does my hair look?"

"It looks great," I said looking in the mirror behind her back as she turned toward me with a wide smile on her face. "The band is called Fire Escape, but their lead singer plays solo on Friday nights in town."
