The world outside the Pokeball was huge and scary. As I looked around the tall grass, my legs were still wobbly from being in the ball for so long. I ducked behind a rock when I heard someone approaching.

"Hey, Red," said a voice that sounded like a man's. I peeked over the rock and saw two people walking by. One was carrying a bag of groceries. "How did you catch that Pikachu?"

"I used a Pokeball," replied the other person, who I recognized as Red. He tossed something small into the air... and it landed on his shoulder! It was an egg! "Yup, she's going to be an awesome starter."

"That's really cool!" The man turned to face Red. "Hey, do you think you could teach me how to catch Pokmon? I've been wanting to learn for a while now."

Red looked down at his feet. "Yeah, sure." He scratched his head with one hand. "Just... come back tomorrow? My wife wants me home early today."

The man nodded. "Alright, see you later then!" They headed off in different directions through the woods. Red continued walking down the path for a few minutes before stopping in front of a tall tree with some kind of contraption on top of it. A few seconds later, he was gone.

I listened carefully to see if anyone else was nearby, but all I could hear was the wind rustling through the grass and birds tweeting in the distance. Confident that no one was around, I made my way out of hiding and started walking down the path towards where Red had vanished moments ago.

As I approached the tree with the contraption on top of it, my eyes were drawn up to something dangling from above it: a glowing red crystal! It looked like it could be broken too; there were cracks running across it in several places.

My curiosity got the best of me and I poked it with my paw. To my surprise, it fell down directly in front of me! Before I could even think about what else to do with it, though, Red reappeared right next to me! He reached down and picked up the crystal before turning back towards me and holding it out again.

"Pika!" I said excitedly as I took it from him and held it up so we could both look at it better. His eyes widened in surprise as he stared at me intently for several seconds before breaking into an enormous smile and laughing loudly in relief.

"Pikachu!" he yelled happily in response before picking me up and throwing me over his shoulder like he had done with his backpack earlier that day. "You're free! You're free!!" He turned away from where we had been standing and ran deeper into the woods until we arrived at two large rocks sitting side by side facing one another. He set me down on one side before jumping over himself to land on the other side next to a small round opening filled with even more crystals!
