Gale's Galactic Journey
·
Published 3/19/2023Gale, a bold and resilient farmer living on an alien planet, embarks on the centuries-long mission of using his robot pilots to search the galaxy for exotic plants in the face of ever-increasing danger and wild relationships--leading to a page-turning space drama of larger-than-life characters and ironclad conflicts.
For years I had been working on a cobalt-powered robot that could withstand the cold of space. It was not easy but I knew it would pay off. My goal was to send my first robot into space to search for plants and minerals, as well as new planets to colonize. The robot was ready to go on its maiden voyage with me at the controls. "Are you sure about this Mr. Gray?" asked my assistant. "Of course, we have been hard at work building this thing for years now."
"But the risks..."
"I know what you're thinking, but I am not going to be like those other explorers who lost their lives searching for new worlds." I replied confidently. "I will not be risking my life in space, my robots can do that for me." My assistant did not look amused at this statement. He simply shook his head and walked away towards the hangar where the cobalt powered robot awaited us. As we approached the hangar we began to hear the sounds of metal clanging against metal and sparks flying everywhere. We entered through a set of large metal doors and saw one of my robots lying on the floor, it's circuits shorting out from all the damage it had taken. The robot was a wreck; it's body now mangled beyond repair and parts of it strewn across the hangar floor. An embarrassed look appeared on my assistant's face as he looked around and realized he could no longer hide behind his notebook.
"What happened?" I asked him in shock, "Was there an accident during the test run? How did this happen?" My assistant quickly picked up his notebook and waved it around in front of him while saying: "No no no Mr. Gray, this is great news! This is exactly what we were hoping for! This proves that our design works!"
"How is this great news? This thing is completely destroyed."
"Mr. Gray, don't you realize what just occurred? We sent a cobalt powered robot into space and it came back! That's amazing! It flew faster than light speed over 10 times in order to avoid collisions with other objects in space! You can't ask for more than that!"
"You're calling this a success? You are telling me that we have no idea what happened out there? The robot didn't even record anything!"
"Yes...but that's okay too!" replied my assistant, "This means that in the future if something does happen then we'll be able to figure out why by analyzing our previous data! This is great!"
My assistant suddenly became very emotional after realizing how excited he sounded as he explained his theory to me, so much so that tears began streaming down his face. He grabbed hold of me and began shaking me while shouting: "This is amazing! This is amazing! This is amazing!"
