at night. He works hard to save up money and is determined to stay out of trouble.

One evening, as he makes his way home from his security job, a group of men approaches him on the street. Mark's heart races as he recognizes one of them, Pavel, an old associate from his criminal days in Poland.

Pavel smirks at Mark. "Well, well, if it isn't little Mark J. Thought you could run away and leave your past behind, did ya?"

Mark clenches his fists nervously. "I don't want any trouble, Pavel. I'm trying to start over."

Pavel laughs. "Start over? That's rich! You think you can just escape from who you are? We'll see about that."

The other men in the group step forward menacingly, surrounding Mark. He knows he's outnumbered and panic sets in.

Suddenly, a police siren wails in the distance and the sound sends the group scattering in different directions.

Mark takes a deep breath and continues on his way home. As he lies awake in bed that night, he can't shake off the fear that Pavel and his friends will come after him again.

Days turn into weeks and there's no sign of Pavel or his crew. Mark starts to relax a little and focuses on work and saving money for a better future.

One evening, after finishing his shift at the warehouse, Mark receives an unexpected visit from Detective Owen Reynolds of Scotland Yard's Organized Crime Unit.

"Mark Jankowski?" the detective asks as he holds up a badge.

Mark nods nervously. "That's me."

Detective Reynolds steps inside the small apartment and closes the door behind him. "Mind if I have a word with you?"

Mark swallows hard but gestures for the detective to take a seat at his kitchen table.

"I've been looking into your background," Detective Reynolds begins as he pulls out a file. "You came to this country seeking a fresh start, am I right?"

Mark nods, his palms growing sweaty.

"I have reason to believe that you were involved in criminal activity back in Poland," the detective continues. "But since you've been here, there's no evidence of any wrongdoing."

Mark's eyes widen in surprise. "I swear, Detective, I've changed. I want nothing to do with that life anymore."

Detective Reynolds studies Mark for a moment before closing the file. "I have no reason to doubt you at the moment, Mr. Jankowski. But I'll be keeping an eye on you. You're not as invisible as you think."

With those words, Detective Reynolds stands up and heads for the door.

Mark exhales slowly and sinks into his chair, relieved that he's not being arrested but also well aware that his past has caught up with him in some way.

Days turn into weeks once again and Mark continues to go about his daily routine, but now with the added weight of being watched by law enforcement.

One evening, as he settles into his security post outside a nightclub, he notices two familiar faces approaching him from across the street. It's Pavel and one of his cronies.

Panic sets in as they approach him menacingly. "Well, well, if it isn't our friend Mark," Pavel sneers.

Mark glances around nervously, hoping someone will intervene or that the police will show up like last time.

"Pavel," Mark begins cautiously. "Listen-"

Before he can finish speaking, Pavel delivers a swift punch to Mark's stomach and sends him sprawling onto the pavement.

"You thought you could run away from us?" Pavel growls as he towers over Mark.

His crony kicks Mark while he's down and joins in with a sinister laugh.

Just when things seem their bleakest, red and blue lights flash in the distance, growing brighter as a police car speeds toward them.

Pavel and his friend exchange panicked glances before fleeing in opposite directions.

Mark lies on the ground, gasping for breath, as the police car screeches to a halt. Two officers step out and rush over to him.

"Are you alright, mate?" one of the officers asks as he helps Mark to his feet.

Mark nods gratefully, barely able to speak. As he looks at the officers, he realizes that one of them is Detective Reynolds.

The detective gives Mark a stern look before addressing the other officer. "Take these two into custody."

As the officer begins to handcuff Pavel's crony, Mark musters up the courage to speak. "Detective Reynolds... thank you."

The detective meets Mark's gaze for a moment before nodding silently. He then turns his attention to Pavel's accomplice and supervises their arrests.

From that night forward, Pavel and his gang are nowhere to be seen. News spreads quickly that they've been arrested for various crimes and won't be causing trouble in the neighborhood anymore.

Mark continues working his jobs, saving money, and staying out of trouble. He knows that both his past mistakes and those who seek revenge for them are still lurking somewhere in the shadows.

But with each passing day, he becomes more confident that he can leave his old life behind and build a new future in this foreign land that has become his home.
