Sisters United in Widia
·
Published 4/2/2023After being separated as children, two sisters of diverse backgrounds, Ysira and Tenemba, reunite and set off on a daring journey through the tumultuous kingdom of Widia to restore harmony to their chaotic world and make their bond unbreakable.
The sun had a pained look to it. It was the color of copper and perpetually suffering from some terrible ailment. It’s rays left parts of the land barren and infertile, while others were too much to bear. It’s heat was unrelenting and made things grow in strange ways that didn’t make sense. Trees grew in a perfect circle around it as if trying to avoid its reach. Animals would lay still in the shade, too tired to do anything else but wait for their death.
The warm wind blew in the summer season. The air smelled of mold and decay and dried leaves. It was a smell that penetrated your nose and hung onto your clothes. It was a smell that you took deep breaths of because it wasn’t so bad after all, since you’d gotten used to it over the years. But today, it would not be tolerated. Ysira walked through her garden with purpose, holding a small umbrella over her head with one hand, using the other to hold up her long sleeved dress against the wind.
She looked down at her feet to keep herself from walking into a shrub or tripping on a rock. She knew her way around this garden well enough to navigate without looking up. She passed by a patch of flowers that she had raised out of soil collected from all over the kingdom, as well as from her own garden plot which she had been tending for ten years now. These flowers were known as dragonflies and were considered beautiful despite having no scent or color to them, being white and grey like an eggshell or an old bone that was left behind by some ancient creature long ago who had no need for such frivolities.
She reached the center of this garden where stood a tall tree called Geva Beru, which had been here before she was born, when her mother was young, and even before that when her mother’s mother lived here as well. Ysira had named this tree Geva Beru because it was just that - a tree that existed as if out of time and space itself.
Overhead, bees could be heard buzzing around searching for nectar among flowers, while butterflies fluttered amongst them in pursuit of love through flight paths traced by invisible lines whose origins were unknown even to themselves. They danced together along these invisible lines until they met in midair and touched each other's wings before flying away again on their separate paths once more.
Ysira knelt down next to the tree and placed down her umbrella beneath it so that it could dry off from being wetted by the rain earlier on in the day when she had gone out for her morning walk with Tenemba. Tenemba! She smiled at thinking about her sister whom she hadn't seen since childhood when they were separated by their parents. She remembered how excited Tenemba always used to get when they went into town together during harvest festivals or when they went travelling during festival seasons between villages in order to spread news of festivals taking place elsewhere across the land around them so that people could prepare accordingly by preparing food or decorations ahead of time for their celebrations at home instead of having nothing prepared on festival day due to lack of foresight or preparation time which would cause large scale chaos if left unchecked!
They had been inseparable growing up together! They shared everything with each other! They did everything together! They loved each other dearly! How could they have ended up being separated? Why hadn't they seen each other since then? Why had they not tried harder?
Tenemba...she thought about how happy she had been just seeing Tenemba's face up close again after so many years apart! Yet for some reason, something about their reunion wasn't right...Sighing deeply she continued with her daily ritual: Planting seeds within holes dug into the ground underneath Geva Beru's roots with soil taken from various places throughout the kingdom where various types of fauna flourished: Berry bushes, trees with fruit that bore edible nuts, trees bearing medicinal bark capable of curing almost any ailment...
As she opened another seed packet from inside her sash which contained seeds from plants found only near hot springs where new life bubbled forth from thin dirt bed sheets created by water dripping down to form colorful crystal rocks beneath cool water streams trickling down mountainsides where deer roamed free without fear among green dewy grasses...butterflies danced amongst these too because there were no predators present at these locations except for ones wearing clothing who sat near pools floating on natural rafts made out of thick papyrus reeds grown from river beds fed by rainwater melting glaciers high up in mountain ranges further north where snow never melted...ten miles above sea level where ice can be found year round except during summers when snow melts forming cold rivers whose water runs down powerful rapids snaking through valleys...which eventually feeds rivers running through plains filled with lush forests resembling those found in ancient times before humans came along and destroyed balance between humankind and nature...where human foolishness led people astray...and then those same people set fire to entire forests either intentionally or unintentionally causing complete deforestation everywhere they go leaving nothing but ash behind...soil turned black forever marked by footprints leading toward village centers where people live together under one roof all year round whether its winter or summer, night or day...asking them why they do such foolish things is beyond understanding because there is no reasoning behind what humans do anymore except for killing each other until there are no more humans left...and then who will take care of nature? Who will plant new trees? Who will care for animals? Who will know how plants grow? who will stop erosion caused by heavy rains? Who will put out fires raging near village centers? Will animals burn too? Will humans start killing each other again because nobody is around to stop wars anymore? When did nature cease existing? When did humans cease existing? Where did everyone go? Are we all dead yet? Did death finally catch up with us after we stopped dying long ago because we're immortal now but only until our time runs out which never comes because we're immortal now and never die anymore except sometimes we do die suddenly one day unexpectedly when we get drunk on stolen alcohol made illegally somewhere but nobody cares anymore because nobody lives there anymore so why bother making laws anymore unless you want someone else stealing your alcohol which happened once already but I don't remember what happened after but I think I woke up somewhere far away feeling very sad all alone far away from home feeling very sad but also very tired suddenly tired too tired to feel sad anymore tired enough to fall asleep standing up standing against a wall sleeping standing up leaning against my arm touching my shoulder laying my head against my shoulder sleeping like this dreaming dreams filled with vibrant colors dancing around me dancing holding me safely across my stomach carrying me forward gently allowing me restfulness allowing me dreamfulness allowing me sleepfulness allowing me infinity until I open my eyes slowly slowly slowly feeling very awake suddenly unable to remember what I dreamed remembering only that I dreamed something looking around confused wondering why I'm here wondering why I'm feeling refreshed suddenly not remembering how old I am feeling like a child again excitedly jumping happily around happily smiling happily laughing happily forgetting about everything else forgetting about fears forgetting about worries forgetting about pain forgetting about sadness forgetting about loneliness forgetting about confusion forgetting about questions wondering why I'm here wondering why I feel so good suddenly so happy suddenly wanting more wondering why this happened wondering why I'm alive again staring at myself thinking "Where have you been?" wonder wondering "Who am I?" wonder wondering "What do I want?" wonder thinking today's thoughts tomorrow's thoughts today's thoughts tomorrow dreams tomorrow hopes today's feelings tomorrow's feelings today's feelings tomorrow feelings today's feelings tomorrow feelings thinking maybe tonight means something tonight stands for something thinking maybe tonight is important tonight matters tonight has meaning thinking maybe tonight is special tonight means something special tonight has importance maybe tonight is special maybe tonight matters maybe tonight exists maybe tonight isn't just like every other night thinking maybe today is different than yesterday thinking maybe today means something special thinking maybe today makes sense thinking maybe today is important thinking maybe today isn't just like any other day thinking maybe today isn't just another day thinking maybe today holds some sort of promise thinking maybe today makes sense thinking maybe history hasn't ended yet repeating myself over saying "Is history ended yet?"
