I stared at my brother and sister, my gaze intense, as they sat on the edge of the dirt road. They were barely a few feet away from me, yet it felt like light years. I had been gone for two weeks now, two long, excruciatingly long weeks. I had run out of rice, and their only response was to tell me to "just go find some." I don't know why I bothered telling them anything anymore; they never listened.

"We're almost there!" Leopold cried out as Freya looked up at him with a smile on her face. The sun shone down upon us from above, the temperature rising steadily with each passing minute. It was going to be another hot one.

I sighed in frustration as the pair continued to chatter animatedly to each other. They seemed so happy together, both of them having grown quite close in the past couple years since our father's death. I had often seen them whispering behind closed doors, though I never knew what about because they would shut up whenever I entered the room.

I took off my backpack and rummaged through it for my canteen, drinking deeply before putting it back into place and dusting off my pants. My shirt was already drenched with sweat, sticking to me uncomfortably while I waited for them to remember that I existed.

As if reading my thoughts, Freya finally turned her head towards me and smiled brightly. I glared at her angrily and she blinked in surprise before looking away again and giggling softly with Leopold. She wasn't always mean like this; she could be very sweet when she wanted to be, but it seems like these days she always chose to take pleasure in my pain instead of trying to comfort me every once in a while like she used to do when we were younger.

"Hey! Look over there!" Leopold shouted suddenly, pointing down the road towards a small village just ahead of us. The three of us quickly scrambled to our feet and began running towards the village with excitement. The village wasn't that big; most of the houses were constructed out of wood and covered by straw roofs held up by wooden beams. There was a small river that passed through the center of town before continuing on its way towards who knows where; children played along its banks while parents worked hard tending to their crops or fishing along its shores.

It didn't take long before we were surrounded by villagers who nodded happily at us as we made our way through town towards an old man sitting beneath a large tree in the center of town with his legs crossed underneath him, his eyes closed peacefully as he chewed slowly on something inside his mouth while he meditated silently under the shade of the tree's leaves despite all the commotion around him. Children sat cross-legged on the ground around him while they watched him carefully, mimicking his actions exactly as they tried to meditate alongside him. Some did better than others: some just couldn't keep their eyes closed despite how badly they wanted to learn how to soothe their minds like he did every day under that tree; others struggled not to laugh hysterically as they tried desperately not to think about any jokes or riddles that might pop into their heads; some gave up quickly after realizing how difficult meditation really was; others continued on determinedly despite how exhausted they felt after only ten minutes because they were determined not to let this opportunity pass them by; still others fell asleep against their will while they were trying so hard not too...
