Teasing Fate: Will & Lynn's Cyber Courtship

I’m in the middle of a boss fight, and I just saw my girlfriend Lynn give one of her guild mates a lap dance. My blood is boiling and I can feel my face turn beet red, but I force myself to focus on the task at hand. Four tanks, five healers, and twenty DPS trying to take down this big colossus of a monster. It roars and pounds its fists down into the ground, causing some of the fighters to stumble.

“Fucking awesome! Now just jump over it!” my best friend Luke chimes in as he orbits around me with his sword raised high. A few other guild members join in on his chant as they leap high into the air to avoid being crushed by the giant hands. The tanks and healers rush towards the beast and start beating on it, filling its health bar up with damage as quickly as possible before it can knock them away again with its fists.

“Alright guys, this is going to be a tough one, so don’t lose your focus! Just keep attacking that thing until it dies!” Lynn declares over the guild chat, giving everyone an encouraging smile as she continues to direct us through our tactics. “We can do this! Keep your heads up!” She gives me a quick wink before turning back towards her screen. I grit my teeth against each other and keep on swinging my sword while watching her dance moves from behind her screen. She really knows how to work that body of hers.

I try not to think about how she was dancing with someone else only a few minutes ago, or how she was giving him those same sweet smiles that were now directed at us. I try not to think about it too much because I know that if I think about it too much… well… then I might lose control of myself. And nobody wants to see me when I get like that…

The boss falls onto its knees after taking enough damage from all of us hitting it at once. The tanks rush towards it and start pounding away at its head whenever it tries to get back up again, while the healers stand off to the side and keep everyone alive with their heals. We keep attacking for another minute until we hear Lynn yell over the party channel: “Knockout! Knockout! Knockout! Get ready guys, let’s finish this thing off!”

Everyone charges forward and starts swinging their weapons as hard as they can at its head again, adding even more damage than before thanks to our guild leader’s buffed-up teammates. The boss goes down quicker than expected and we all watch as its health bar disappears into thin air, leaving nothing but dead silence in its wake. Everyone starts jumping up and down in celebration while shouting happy shouts into their headsets; some people are even crying tears of joy after fighting so hard against such a difficult foe. But there’s only one person who has my attention right now… My beautiful girlfriend Lynn…

*ding* *ding* *ding* *ding* *ding* *ding* *ding* *ding*

A notification appears on each of our screens: “You have successfully slain Enforcer Zane! You have been awarded 1 gold coin for your efforts against this incredible enemy! Thank you for playing with us today!” As soon as we see that message appear on our screens, everyone starts laughing hysterically while celebrating their victory together.

I go over to Lynn’s room first since she lives closer to me than anyone else in the guild does; I need answers from her now more than ever before. Her room door is open so I walk inside without knocking; she doesn’t even notice that I am standing there until she hears me clear my throat loudly behind her chair.

She glances over her shoulder at me and smiles brightly when she sees that it is me standing there; she says: “Oh hey Will, what brings you here? Wanna come play some games together?”

I stare at her silently for a few seconds before saying: “What was that all about earlier? Giving that guy a lap dance while we were fighting the boss? How many times have you done something like that before? How many times have YOU cheated on ME?!” I try not raise my voice too much because if I do then… well… then things will get nasty very quickly… very quickly indeed… But I still need answers from her now more than ever before; this is something that cannot be allowed to continue any longer… not after what happened last month… Not after what happened last month…
