I've always been a sucker for alternate realities. The idea of Otherlands filled with color and light, where you could escape to, find sanctuary in. A place where all your problems could be solved.

I've had my fair share of those problems too. You know, typical stuff - my wife left me, I lost my job, the dog died. You can't say those aren't issues. And they have been pretty fucking hard to deal with.

So I've always been a sucker for Otherlands.

That's why I was so excited when I met Mason at the bar last night. He seemed like he knew a thing or two about Otherlands too.

"So you're saying that you guys want to make some sort of science fiction movie with a documentary feel?" I asked across the table as we sipped on our beers.

"Yeah," Mason replied. "We want it to be kind of like District 9 meets Cloverfield."

"Oh man," I said, shaking my head as if in disbelief. "That sounds amazing."

"And you know," Brian added after a pause, "we really need somebody who knows about editing."

The two men looked at each other before turning back to face me with big grins on their faces.

"You wouldn't happen to have any experience in that area would you?" Mason asked.

"Well yeah, actually," I told them confidently as I took another sip of beer (you know what they say - never let it be said that alcohol doesn't give you confidence). "I'm actually an editor at this one production company over in Westchester."

"Oh shit!" Brian exclaimed excitedly as he slapped his hand down on the table, causing both of us and the bartender behind him to jump in surprise. "That is so perfect! We need to meet with your boss immediately!"

"Yeah man," Mason nodded his head enthusiastically from beside him. "There's no time to waste! Can we meet up with you tomorrow morning?"

I thought about it for a second before answering. If I was going to go out of my way for these guys then I wanted something more than just gratitude in return (nothing wrong with wanting something for nothing though).

"How about this," I said finally with a sly smile on my face, "You guys pay for this round and breakfast tomorrow morning and we'll talk business."

Mason and Brian glanced at each other before turning back toward me with looks of confusion on their faces.
