A Lethal Kiss of Fate
·
Published 3/31/2023A lovesick vagrant named Gaspard, cursed with a lethal kiss, races against fate to save his beloved Yvette and discover the true fragility of life.
“Yvette, I have something to tell you.”
She stopped and looked at me, her eyes sparkling with the stars above us. She was the most beautiful angel I had ever seen. “Are you going to confess your love for me then?” Her words made my heart soar. I had never felt this way before. The feeling was foreign but so wonderful.
“Yes Yvette, I am in love with you.”
She blushed and then embraced me. We stood there for a while until she pulled away and looked at me once more. “Tell me what it is then Gaspard!”
I ran my hand through my hair and sighed. “Yvette, I have to confess something to you first. You see-“
“Yes Gaspard? What is it?” The starlight reflected off of her face, making her look even more beautiful than she already was. Her smile lit up the whole garden that we were standing in, making it seem like paradise in the middle of Paris.
I pulled out a piece of paper from my pocket and handed it to her suddenly shyly, as if I was showing her my deepest secrets instead of just a piece of paper. “Here is the truth Yvette, please read this first before I tell you anything else.”
She took the paper from my hands and began reading it intently; all the while, I watched as a myriad of emotions passed across her face: confusion, anger and finally resignation, followed by sadness and pain. With tears welling up in her eyes she looked back up at me and whispered: “You are cursed Gaspard? But why-? How did this happen?” She dropped the paper on the ground and burst into tears as she stepped away from me.
I rushed to her side once more and held her tightly against my chest as she sobbed uncontrollably against me, shaking uncontrollably within my arms. When she finally calmed down enough to speak again she asked in a voice that broke on every other word: “What do we do now Gaspard? How can we be together if you are cursed? Will this curse ever end?”
I stroked her hair gently with one hand as I held her close to me with the other arm wrapped around her waist, kissing the top of her head softly as I whispered back: “We will figure something out Yvette; there has to be some way that we can make this work between us right now right here right now Yvette!” As I said these words; they felt right, but still left a nagging doubt in my mind: what if there wasn't any way for us to be together?
I spent every moment with Yvette after that day and over time our love grew deeper each day that passed by until one day I couldn't bear to be away from her anymore; it seemed like an eternity since I'd last seen her smiling face or heard her laughter ringing through the halls of Versailles or heard her soft whispers calling my name under the moonlight or even felt the touch of her warm lips against mine without fear of poisoning us both with my cursed touch no longer able to bear being away from her one moment longer any longer without seeing those eyes shining at me again without feeling those arms embracing me again without hearing that voice calling out my name again without running my fingers through that beautiful golden hair wanting nothing more than to feel those lips pressed against mine again without feeling that body pressed against mine pressing harder and harder wanting nothing more than for this - our fate - to disappear forever never ending wishing desperately for a glimpse of hope wishing desperately not just for hope but for a miracle not just for hope but for happiness not just for hope but freedom not just hope but freedom never ending knowing that each second would be another second closer to losing everything knew deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside that when she left everything would shatter inside knowing deep down inside not just because he loved her but because he hated himself not just because he loved her but because he hated himself not just because he loved her but because he hated himself not just because he loved her but because he hated himself
