·
Published 7/7/2023In a world divided by adversity, six determined and intrepid young adults of diverse backgrounds unite to pursue their dreams against all odds. As they navigate through a minefield of temptation, despair, and injustice, their triumph becomes a beacon of hope, challenging our notion of identity, and proving that greatness knows no boundaries. Will their unwavering resilience be enough to overcome the ultimate test that life has in store for them?

All the young men had sat for popcorn and a movie about a town that was deserted. The adults were all dead, by some unknown force. The kids went through the town, trying to find out what happened. They were all very scared as they found mutilated bodies of adults, and signs of struggle. Eventually, they made it to the center of town where there was a fountain with a statue of a girl on top.
The statue turned out to be alive, and she chased them away from the town. After they got back home, they told adults what happened. Adults didn't believe them, but sent some people down there to investigate. One of their group called the kids and told them he was going to go look at the fountain, claiming he saw something move in the water when they left. He never came back, so one of the guys went to check on him. He went into town and saw that it was covered in fog, and then he got chased out as well.
The next day, more adults went down there to investigate, including several police officers armed with guns. The kids stayed in their houses for most of the day, since their parents thought it wasn't safe for them to leave yet. Finally though, after dinner one night, one of the kids sneaked out of his house and told the others that he couldn't take it anymore. They all agreed with him and told him that they would meet up at an old gas station on the outskirts of town.
They all met up there later that night and decided to sneak over to the fountain by jumping over fences into other people's backyards so that no one would notice them walking around in the dark. They eventually made it over there and walked towards it carefully until they heard someone yell "What are you doing here?!"
One of them yelled back "We're just looking at your fountain!" He was holding a knife so he covered it up with his other hand as they turned around slowly to see who said that. They saw a man standing there staring at them angrily before he started laughing hysterically at them and coughing violently afterwards.
"You gotta be kidding me," he said between laughs as he walked towards them "I've been trying to get rid of this stupid thing for years! I figured if I put it behind my house nobody would hit it and cause me more trouble than it's worth! But I guess now everyone knows about it huh? Great." He started coughing again before continuing "So are you just gonna stand here or what?" He chuckled again "Don't you wanna see how pretty she is? You know...after you killed her..." He laughed again before one of the kids lunged forward at him with his knife raised above his head ready to stab him in his stomach...
...but before the kid could make contact with the man, a hand shot out from the shadows and grabbed his wrist, halting his attack. It was the missing adult, the one who had gone to investigate the fountain and never returned.
"Don't," the man warned, his voice low and filled with pain. The kids stared in shock, unable to comprehend what was happening. The missing adult pulled the would-be attacker away from the man, his grip firm and authoritative. "This man... he may be strange, but he speaks the truth."
The kids exchanged confused glances. "What do you mean?" one of them asked, his voice trembling.
The missing adult took a deep breath, his eyes fixed on the mysterious man who claimed they had killed the fountain's statue. "You see... the fountain, it was cursed. The girl... she was trapped inside that statue, suffering for years."
The man's laughter turned into wheezing coughs, his body racked with pain. "I found out about it... accidentally," he managed to explain. "I tried... to release her." He paused, his eyes filled with regret. "But it... had unintended consequences."
A heavy silence hung in the air as the kids tried to grasp the enormity of what the man was saying. They had only wanted an adventure. They never intended for anyone to get hurt.
The missing adult placed a hand on the man's shoulder, a gesture of understanding. "We need to fix this," he told the kids firmly. "We can't undo what has been done, but we can find a way to free the girl's spirit so that she may finally rest."
Intrigued and burdened with a sense of responsibility, the kids nodded in agreement. They would make things right.
Together, they formed a plan. They gathered research from the library, delving into ancient legends and forgotten rituals. They sought the help of a wise old woman who lived on the outskirts of town, known for her knowledge of the supernatural. With her guidance, they discovered that the curse on the fountain could only be broken by an act of true sacrifice.
The kids consulted with their parents, who were wary yet convinced by their determination. They would play their part in this grand endeavor, offering support and protection from the shadows.
As the moonlit night approached, the group returned to the town, this time united in purpose. They stood before the fountain, its eerie presence seeming to mock their efforts. The once-chasing, giggling statue now had an air of sadness and longing.
The young boy who had almost attacked the man stepped forward, his heart pounding. He had been chosen to be the sacrifice. With his trembling hand, he slowly drew the knife from his pocket, the very same knife that had held ardent fury just moments ago.
He turned to the adults, his voice barely a whisper. "I will set her free."
With the utmost determination, the boy pressed the knife against his palm, wincing as a small, but significant, cut appeared. Blood welled up, symbolizing his sacrifice, his commitment to right their wrongs.
And then, in a moment of awe and absolute silence, the blood dripped onto the stone figure, seeping into the cracks and crevices. The fountain trembled, and suddenly, the stone started to crumble.
Like a phoenix emerging from ashes, the girl's spirit manifested, her ethereal form a luminous presence. She reached out, her hand overlapping the boy's injured palm, where his blood had mingled with her essence.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice both haunting and gentle. "You have freed me from this perpetual torment."
The girl's spirit ascended, her form dissipating into the night, leaving behind a sense of peace. The curse was broken, and the deserted town started to regain its vitality.
As the group made their way back home, they knew that the town's tragic history would forever be etched in their memories. But they also learned the power of redemption, the strength of unity, and the importance of taking responsibility for their actions.
And in the years that followed, whenever the kids gathered around a campfire or sat in the comfort of a living room, recounting their extraordinary adventure, they would remember the girl from the fountain. They would remember her smile, her gratitude, and the remarkable way in which they had come together to bring about resolution in a world that seemed beyond repair.
