Exploring the Magical Stars: Henrietta and Jakob's Galactic Journey
·
Published 4/9/2023Eccentric Henrietta and peculiar Jakob embark on a thrilling interplanetary voyage, where they confront the harsh irrationality of reality and the deep feelings between them in order to uncover what truly matters beyond magical forces.
The sun rose slowly, peaking over the ridge in the distance. Its rays reflecting off the cool green grass, sending a soft morning light into the back window of Henrietta's pickup truck. A soft breeze blew through her hair, sending a gentle chill across her face. Her arms wrapped around Jakob's waist as they drove down the dirt road, heading back to town.
"Will you be okay driving?" He asked, turning his head to look at her. She was still somewhat sleepy. They had left their hotel room before sunrise and had been driving for nearly three hours now, heading to a little diner outside of town to grab some breakfast before Henrietta dropped Jakob off at the airport and continued on home.
"I think so," she said with a yawn, "I've taken a few long drives in my time."
"If you're tired though we can stop somewhere and get something to eat," he offered. He reached his hand back and ran it gently along the side of her face. He leaned forward and whispered into her ear, "We don't have to go straight home if you want." His lips brushed against her skin, sending tingles down her neck and causing her heart to skip a beat. She turned her head and looked up at him, smiling coyly.
"Jakob..." She said softly as she pulled out of his embrace and turned towards him more fully in her seat. She put one hand on his cheek softly while tracing lines up and down his jawline with her other hand, "You know I love spending time with you." She paused momentarily as she stared into his eyes, "You understand me in ways no one else has... but I just can't do this anymore." She finished sadly, hoping he would understand what she meant without having to explain further. His face was filled with confusion and worry as she let go of him.
"What do you mean?" He asked hesitantly, afraid of what she might say next as he pulled onto the shoulder of the road next to the field that bordered their quiet country road. The truck came to a stop and he put it into park before turning off the ignition and pulling on his seatbelt. He stared straight ahead, looking at nothing in particular, out of fear that if he looked into her eyes it would make it all too real for him.
She took a deep breath before continuing, "It's just not right," she said finally turning towards him again, "I am forty years old and you are barely twenty." Her voice became shaky as she fought back tears threatening to fall from her eyes and ruin their perfect trip away together. They had been seeing each other for a year now but there was always an unspoken understanding that this could never be anything serious between them because of their age difference. They enjoyed each others company immensely but neither had ever thought about what could happen between them after they returned home from their wonderful vacation together in Europe before deciding to take an impromptu trip across the country together as well.
"Does this have anything to do with that guy who was following us around Europe? Or any of those other weirdoes we met last night?" He asked, trying to remain calm despite the fact that he couldn't believe what he was hearing right now. This wasn't how things were supposed to go!
"I wish I could tell you more," She said with another sigh, "but I will say yes, this has everything to do with those guys following us around." She turned towards him again and reached across his chest, placing both hands on his shoulders, forcing him to look directly into her eyes so he could see how deeply sad they were despite how hard she tried not to cry, "That's why I'm asking you not to see me anymore." Her bottom lip began quivering slightly before she bit down hard on it, fighting back tears once again.
He turned away from her slightly, unable to look at her in this state any longer, knowing he was probably going to end up crying too if he didn't turn away soon enough so he could collect himself before getting out of the car and walking over to call for a ride back home from the diner down the road so he wouldn't miss his flight later that day. Just when he was about ready to break eye contact with her though, he felt something hit his knee gently, followed by another softer impact against his arm which caused him to turn back towards Henrietta once more just in time for their lips to meet softly against each other's in their first kiss since they had left Europe only days ago.
During their European vacation, they had faced challenges and threats from individuals who seemed to have malicious intentions towards them. Despite their love for one another, the age difference and dangers that accompanied their relationship made it more complicated than they had ever anticipated. With heavy hearts, they shared their final moments together before separating, knowing that sometimes, love isn't enough to conquer all obstacles
