"I'd like to order a quiche."

"Alright, which flavour?"

"Beetroot and halloumi."

"Sure. We don't have that today, I'm afraid. How about the spinach and feta with walnuts?"

"That's fine, thank you."

Darcelle put down the device she had been holding in front of her face and looked around. There was no-one else in sight. She must have taken a wrong turn somewhere. She was sure this was the right street. She walked up to the large glass window with a big sign on it that said "Sweet Corner". She peered inside. There were lots of people standing in line at the counter and sitting at tables, eating or drinking something from small white cups with straws sticking out of them. Everything looked normal, except for one thing: nobody was talking! The customers just stood there quietly as if they were waiting for something. Then Darcelle noticed a man walking through the room carrying a box full of red-and-white striped pastries; he would stop every now and then at one of the tables and hand something to a customer from the box he carried. They took whatever it was from him and ate it without speaking a word or even looking up. They just continued standing there staring into space while they ate whatever they had been given. It was all very strange!

Suddenly Darcelle heard someone call out her name behind her. She turned around and saw two men walking towards her along the sidewalk; they had both been calling her name.

"Yes?" she asked when they were standing next to her. "Can I help you?"

One of them took out a badge from his pocket and showed it to Darcelle before putting it back again. It said "Department of Inter-World Relations". The man showed her his ID card too and told her that he needed to ask her some questions about what she had been doing recently. He started telling her that she might be in danger because they had received some suspicious reports about people like her who lived in different worlds, but Darcelle didn't listen anymore; she wanted to know more about Sweet Corner. While the two men had talked, Darcelle had tried to look at them without turning away from Sweet Corner's window, until one of them noticed what she was doing and told her not to look inside any more because it was dangerous for her to do that if she didn't belong here! After that they went on questioning Darcelle without getting any answers out of her because she couldn't stop thinking about what was happening inside Sweet Corner's shop. Finally, after asking Darcelle whether she had anything against being taken back to where she came from - which is how Darcelle knew for sure that these men were from the Department - one of them poked a small device into her ear which made everything disappear from view so suddenly that Darcelle fell over backwards onto the ground and lay there staring into space herself until everything went black . . .
