Atreides Rising

It was a cruel twist of fate that had separated them. The brutal Harkonnen attack on their home, the betrayal of their trusted allies - it had all ended in blood and fire. Irulan had believed that she was the sole survivor of her proud House, until a chance encounter with one of her father’s spies had shattered that illusion.
She took another sip from her cup and looked out at the vastness of space before her. She was aboard a small transport ship, en route to the unknown planet where her brother was said to be hiding. It would take several more days to reach their destination, but she found it difficult to sleep or focus on anything other than the upcoming reunion.
“We’re closing in on the coordinates,” the pilot’s voice crackled over the intercom. “We should be arriving within the hour.”
Irulan nodded to herself and set down her cup. She rose from her seat and made her way down to the cargo hold where Javed’s quarters were located.
The hatch hissed open as she approached and she stepped inside quietly, not wanting to disturb him if he was sleeping. The room was dimly lit and shadows danced across the walls as stars streaked by outside.
Javed sat at a small desk near one of the portholes, hunched over a worn notebook. Long brown hair hung in front of his face as he scribbled something with great concentration.
“Javed?” Irulan called softly.
He looked up quickly, surprise written across his face for a moment before recognition set in.
“Irulan!” he exclaimed, rising from his seat and crossing the small room in two strides. “You’re here! You actually came!”
She opened her arms and he stepped into them willingly, embracing her tightly as tears welled up in both their eyes.
“I didn’t know if I’d ever see you again,” Javed murmured into his sister’s shoulder.
“Nor I you, brother,” Irulan replied, her voice choked with emotion. “But we’re together now. That’s what matters.”
They held each other for a long time before finally pulling apart. Javed wiped the tears from his face and offered a warm smile to his sister.
“I have so much to tell you,” he said, excitement bubbling in his voice.
“And I have much to learn,” Irulan replied. “We’ll have plenty of time to catch up once we’ve reached the planet.”
Javed nodded and turned back towards the desk. He picked up the notebook and flipped it closed, revealing a map of the unknown planet they were headed towards.
“I’ve been studying this place since I arrived,” he said as he handed it to Irulan. “There’s something strange going on there, something big. I think that’s why Father sent me here in the first place.”
“What do you mean?” Irulan asked as she studied the map.
“It’s hard to explain,” Javed replied, frowning slightly. “But there’s some kind of power on this planet, some force that no one else seems to know about or understand.”
Irulan looked up from the map and met her brother’s gaze. There was something in his eyes that she had never seen before - determination mixed with fear, hope mingled with uncertainty.
“And what do you plan to do about it?” she asked quietly.
Javed took a deep breath and squared his shoulders confidently.
“I plan to find out what this power is and how it can be used against our enemies,” he replied. “I believe that House Atreides still has a chance at revenge, but we must be willing to seize it.”
Irulan stared at her brother for a long moment before setting the map down on the desk. She crossed over to him and placed a hand on his arm.
“You won’t have to do it alone,” she said softly. “We’ll face whatever this planet has to offer together, as a family.”
A smile spread across Javed’s face and he covered his sister’s hand with his own.
“Thank you, Irulan,” he said, his voice filled with gratitude and love. “I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“And I without you,” Irulan replied, her heart full of both hope and trepidation. “But we’ll never have to find out. We’re in this together, now and always.”
They shared another smile before turning back towards the desk. There was much to plan and even more to discover, but they would face it all as siblings should - united in purpose, unyielding in their determination.
The transport ship hurtled through space on its course for the unknown planet below, carrying with it two hearts that beat as one. The future was uncertain but whatever lay ahead - they were ready.
