On the screen, Nargis was engaged in battle with a robot that resembled a legless lizard. It was low to the ground but covered from head to tail in razor-sharp bony scales. With black, glossy eyes and a mouth filled with venom-dripping fangs, its long tail moved violently from side to side.

"What kind of twisted individual would create a robot like this?" Zafir said with distaste as he took a sip of his beer. "It's absolutely repulsive."

"They're all valid designs," I stated absentmindedly, my eyes fixated on the screen. "Besides, they aren't designed to harm actual people."

To my left, a duo of bald men sat on barstools intent on watching the ongoing fight. One of them seemed familiar, and then it dawned on me: he was one of those distributing blue cards to Love Island candidates. His interest in us had waned now but perhaps he was just all too familiar with robots to find any of the battles particularly intriguing.

Upon noticing my gaze, the other man nodded before turning back to the screen where two hulking red-armored robots prepared to spar. Each was equipped with a formidable glowing golden trident, their weapon of choice. They'd both claimed victory in their respective city's qualifying round by defeating three adversaries each within thirty minutes—quite a feat.

"These abominations disgust me," Zafir muttered again under his breath, as the match commenced with a resounding bell-like chime echoing through the pub. We were submerged in an underground hideout due to the impenetrable layer of radiation blocking all communication signals. It felt bizarre living in this sheltered environment, never seeing the sky or traversing the outdoors without protective gear, lest we come in contact with the hazardous elements.

Nargis dodged an overhead trident swing with a deft sidestep, executing a forward roll while brandishing her short sword. She drove the weapon into her opponent's midsection and sprang back to her feet cautiously, only to deliver the final blow and decapitate her vulnerable adversary.

"All right!" Zafir cheered as Nargis raised both fists victoriously, shouting an exultant battle cry that resonated throughout the underground pub. The crowd applauded enthusiastically, including me; I had to admit that the fights were indeed exhilarating.

Zafir sat, sipping his beer contemplatively while observing Nargis and Shirin. He felt a growing sense of frustration and wondered how he could persuade Nargis to choose him once she was eliminated from Love Island instead of Shirin. Although he had no romantic interest in Shirin and believed he was more compatible with Nargis, he couldn't ignore the fact that Shirin was undeniably more attractive.

"So this is Love Island," Zafir said dejectedly after watching the television spectacle for about half an hour. "It looks okay."
