The dull thud of a wooden door hitting the wall reverberated through my head. My eyes flickered open and I took in the dimly lit room around me. My head felt like it was going to split open, I remembered drinking with some friends last night.. then nothing else before waking up here.

I glanced around the room, all the furnishings were white and clean, except for a single red stain that marred the floorboards in front of a wardrobe. Spots danced in my vision as I tried to focus on it, it looked like blood..

My heart raced as I pushed myself off the hard mattress, only to collapse and hit the floor face first. I groaned as I rolled over onto my back, there was a mirror on the other side of the room, but all I could see was my back.

I painfully dragged myself towards it, gritting my teeth at the pain in my head and neck. The mirror had a perfect reflection of what was behind me and finally revealed that someone had taken blankets and tied them together to make a noose. My head throbbed as I stared at it.

There was an unusual lightness to them - clearly they weren't tied tight enough to hold anyone's weight. Slowly turning around, I suddenly noticed a small table on top of which sat a note, scrawled in thick black ink. It read simply: "If you're reading this you haven't let go yet."

Oh shit.. I thought to myself as I stumbled back towards the bed and collapsed again. What had happened last night? Had someone set this up? Why would they do something like this? Maybe they just didn't want me to leave? Maybe they'd left something behind?

I crawled back towards the table and picked up the note again. It seemed to be written by an old hand - probably not someone who'd set up this trap for me - but someone familiar with these surroundings. "If you're reading this..." That meant whoever wrote it couldn't be sure if or when I'd even wake up - how long had i been out?

A sudden headache ripped through my brain and saw me scream out loud before passing out into darkness again. This time though, when consciousness returned.. everything was different.
