Siizu and the Heart of the Drake
·
Published 5/23/2023In an alternate prehistoric Korea, Siizu, the resourceful antiquities dealer, embarks on a perilous journey alongside a ragtag group of adventurers to brave monstrous creatures and one another's sins to retrieve a powerful dragon's treasure, the Heart of the Drake, which poses their only chance at survival amidst an Isekai-conjured artifact of Faerun.

"There's something really weird about this town."
"Are you sure it's not just a side-effect of the fish you ate? You know, that shit gives you the runs."
"No. I'm serious. This place is a little off. Did you notice how everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at us when we walked in?"
"Maybe they didn't like the way you were squawking like a dying bird while you chewed your fish?"
"Well, yeah. That wasn't the best idea of mine. But, I mean, people still stared at us."
"I think it's because we are the first non-locals to stop by. We must be quite a sight to them."
"I know, but do you remember that guy who got all up in our faces as soon as we entered? He was definitely looking for something or someone."
"Yeah...I noticed that too."
The two continued on their journey through the city, trying to blend in with the rest of the population. The duo had been working together for years now. The young woman was known as Siizu in her world, but here, she went by the name Victoria. Her companion had no given name after being summoned from another realm by Siizu many moons ago. Most people called him by his class: Bard/Rogue. His real name was Daejae. He was an interesting character to say the least. He loved music, moonlight, and women (in no particular order), but he was a skilled fighter as well. They made an odd couple, but they worked well together nonetheless.
Victoria wasn't sure if she liked this new world yet or not. There were so many new things to see and experience, but most of it felt wrong somehow in her mind's eye. She had always lived in a world where magic did not exist and technology was at its very beginning stages. The world she now traveled through seemed to want nothing more than to forget about anything magical existing at one point. Some truths were better left forgotten....that was what she believed anyway. Still, there were some things that this strange world could learn from her world: such as streets lined with shops with beautiful gowns inside instead of shops filled with things she couldn't even begin to fathom how they worked or why anyone would need them; and libraries filled with thousands upon thousands of books instead of strange boxes which allowed one to talk with people across the globe without ever leaving their home; and food that tasted like something other than charcoal--yes, she knew it might have been partly due to the effects of eating too much "fish". She smiled as she thought about it again while she gazed upon her companion's backside--the small village they had just left was blessed with such wonderful cuisine*. It would be hard going back to eating fish every day.......especially when it tasted bad** (though perhaps it had just been an unlucky catch).
