The landscape was barren and dreary. The sky was a pale, sickly greenish-yellow, and the air was thick with dust that clotted my lungs and made me gag. It had taken me weeks to get this far, trudging through the endless desert, but I had finally reached the tower.

The structure was a colossal edifice of gray stone, so massive it seemed to stretch up into infinity. As I approached it, I began to see details in the structure: countless balconies and windows, each one an eerie black hole staring out into nothingness; a strange spiral staircase that coiled around the outside of the tower like a snake; and most terrifying of all, the minarets that jutted from various points on the wall, some taller than even the tallest tree in the forest. And yet there was no sign of life anywhere. The stones were smooth and glossy beneath my feet, utterly devoid of dust or scuff marks. I suddenly realized that I was not alone.

"Hello?" I called out into the silence. "Is anyone there? Please... I need your help."

A shadow fell over me, and I looked up in alarm as one of the minarets began to descend slowly towards me. My heart leapt into my throat as I took a step back and stumbled on some loose stones buried beneath the sand. Suddenly a flash of light burst into existence between me and the tower, shattering into a thousand rainbow shards that scattered across the ground before winking out of existence once more. The tower froze in place for a moment before slowly continuing its descent towards me. In another flash of light another rainbow shield appeared before vanishing just as quickly as it had arrived. This continued for what seemed like an eternity: long moments of tension as the minaret descended ever closer to me, followed by short bursts of light from my rainbow shields as they struggled to hold back its advance. I could feel myself beginning to tire as I drew upon my powers to create these impromptu barriers every time I needed them; soon enough, one would fail when I needed it most.

I scrambled backwards until my back hit something hard; glancing over my shoulder, I saw that behind me stood an ancient wooden door carved with strange symbols that glowed with an inner light. Tentatively reaching out towards it with trembling fingers, I grasped its handle and pushed open the door only to be greeted by frigid cold air that froze my skin and stole my breath away in an instant. Before me lay another realm entirely: vast icy tundras stretching on beyond sight under skies swirled with reds and blues; twisted trees loomed overhead like gnarled hands holding aloft an endless canopy; an entire world covered in snow save for two lonely towers rising from their midst; one borne aloft by dozens of beat-up umbrella-like structures propping it up above the rest like broken straws protecting a dying candle from wind-blown snuffs; one ancient ruin eroded by age and abandonment; one welcoming beacon beckoning weary wanderers to come inside and rest their tired bones; one towering monolith akin to a finger pointed down at us all by some vengeful god...

I shook off these fanciful thoughts as best as I could manage under these circumstances. "Please," I croaked again, weakly extending my hand towards the structure whose doors had opened for me without hesitation or complaint. "My friends are trapped here somewhere," - no sooner did these words leave my lips than a voice echoed through the air - "trapped within this place together with all those who have gone before them." - A lone tear trickled down my cheek - "We need your help."
